About this deal

To avoid optical distortion, all cases and dials were to be mirror-finished (aka Zaratsu polishing) For those who are looking for a nice automatic watch at a price that doesn’t break the bank, the Seiko 5 Automatic green dial is an impressively strong candidate. The circles and printed numbers on the dial are reminiscent of pilot watches. This, again, goes very well together with the military style. Seiko 5 SNK805 case

Seiko Should Bring Back its Classic, Affordable Field Watch

The Seiko 5 snk805 Automatic watch is powered by Seiko’s 7S26B movement. This is an automatic movement equipped with a rotor. According to specifications, the movement has an error of -35 +/45 seconds per day. Now, this is not COSC performance by any means, but let’s not forget that this watch costs less than 100 USD. With that said, this is only accuracy acceptance, which means it may perform better than this (and people have reported it does). While many Swiss brands play it conservative, Seiko produced dials over the past few decades that are playful, and feature an amazing array of design concepts. Over the years Seiko defined what it meant to blend creativity and craftsmanship – while still maintaining the functionality of a dial. Since then, the Grand Seiko catalog continues to grow with new releases every season, yet the SBGA211 Snowflake model remains alluring to many Grand Seiko enthusiasts.

These two divers’ special editions were conceived to celebrate Seiko's sponsorship of the Save the Ocean project. The dials are designed to look like the sea through a patterned blue degradé ocean scene with a family of charming manta rays swimming across the deep blue dial. This Seiko watch is a good option in terms of durability, accuracy, and aesthetics. The steel case makes the unit more durable vs. cheaper materials. The SNK805 keeps good time. You can wear it 8+ hours/day or manually turn the crown to manually wind up the main spring. The eye-catching design and colors also add value. Moving on to the hands, both the minute and hour hands are diamond-shaped and look very sporty. One may say they look like swords, which of course would be a great detail bearing the military inspiration of this timepiece in mind. Tanaka pioneered a completely new approach to watch design rooted in Japanese culture and philosophy. His set of rules that established Japanese watchmaking as an artistic discipline, alongside other Japanese traditions that were already regarded as worthwhile aesthetic undertakings. You probably noticed the rings on its face. One of them reads the minutes while the other reads the hours – in a 12-hour standard.

The dial shows a sort of sunburst metallic canary yellow at times, and a more muted, mellow warm yellow at other times. By late 1950s, the watch industry witnessed Seiko’s renowned developments on chronometer calibers like the iconic cal. 6139 chronograph movement and several other breakthrough technologies. There’s hardlex crystalon its window. We think its dark blue dial and white markers contrast better than the SNK805’s colourway. Speaking of its dial, there’s a calendar on it.In all likelihood, watches like this will be rare and unavailable to all but the most knowledgeable collectors in a few short years. It’s great looking, durable, robust, and powered by automatic mechanical movement. This means that amongst watch collectors and enthusiasts, it is a watch that is appreciated and respected. It goes to show that price isn’t everything in the watch-collecting hobby. The Seiko SRPE33 and the turtle model, aka the Seiko SRPE39 both have outstanding features and dials to die for. Like many in the Save the Ocean series, these two divers sport unique dials that stand out in a crowded display case. Both the minute and hour hands are sword shaped. They help the watch to be both easy to read at a distance, and also allow precise timekeeping if needed. Out of the many crystals available, the SNK805 has hardlex in place. The glass is tougher than mineral but is not as resistant as sapphire. Hardlex is widely seen in Seiko devices.

However, when you won’t be wearing the watch for 1-2 days, for example, the auto watch winder is a plus. It prevents the rigmarole of winding up the watch constantly. How precise is this watch? It would be impossible not to mention the resemblance that this dial has to a classic pilot's watch – although the overall size of the watch is much smaller than a traditional pilot's watch.

This watch includes a window made of mineral crystal. It’s scratch/impact-resistant and is used most off in the watchmaking industry.

In terms of design, it can be classified as a field watch. It has a sleek profile and a clear military-inspired look. This is further extended via the green color of the dial and strap that the SNK805 has. This model is also available in other colors to suit all tastes. Tanaka took a comprehensive approach to designing Seiko watches, and the Seiko design studio expanded its scope beyond dials to include the entire watchmaking process. Field watches don’t have to be that water-resistant. They’re made for the outdoors, not for hitting the pool. The SNK805 can withstand 100 feet (30 meters) underwater. According to Seiko, it can handle a couple of splashes. Round cases and rudimentary lugs were paired with dull, conventional dials in most designs. There was no design department within the company until 1956 – prior to that, the only people doing design work at the company were those in charge of the dial's form factor – in other words – engineers.

The case of the Seiko 5 SNK805 has a rugged look thanks to its matte finish. Would the case be polished, it would lose a lot of its tool-like character and appear more like a classy everyday watch. A good choice by Seiko. The sides, on the other hand, are polished, which creates a nice contrast, and gives the watch a greater perception of quality and being well-finished. Timex deserves a lot of credit for making the MK1 Mechanical because it answers a real ask from a lot of watch collectors. The fact that we have a cool, military-inspired, and manual wind watch for under €200 makes me realize that the watch world listens every so often. Much like the Seiko, the Timex is lightweight, easy to love, and really nice looking. What do you think? The Seiko or the Timex?
