About this deal

Fault:- when first power up after connecting 512 to rear cam then inserting 512 into windscreen mount is the PiP of rear view is just an outline. Nextbase suggestion is power off power on - and it works every time - rear PiP then contains correct view. This will perform as expected through numerous power off power on sequences while remaining plugged in, but after overnight disconnected the above fault will always show. Also, I have my resolution set to 1440P which I assume is the HI setting, on viewing the video files folder or Protected folder I see there is a Hi and Lo versions of each video file, another waste of card space perhaps. There is some bad news, though. With it attached, the front camera is limited to 1080p recording too, rather than its maximum 1440p. And bitrate drops from roughly 33Mb/s to just 12, matching the rear camera’s recorded video. That’s likely because the 512GW’s processor can’t handle the front camera at the highest quality plus the rear camera’s feed. And there’s a noticeable drop in quality, as you’d expect. Yes that obviously works - do you ever upload footage to any other device? I do regularly, so probably that's why the problem bugs me more than you. I also use the 512 in another vehicle, although not the rear camera that stays permanently in my vehicle. Anyone know why my 512 GW fills my protected folder with unwanted video files. I understood the files that went into this protected files folder were either the result of some sort of collision, or the driver pressing the button on the on the dashcam.

Nextbase 512GW - Full 1440p HD In-Car Dash Camera DVR - 140

The 512GW is a mid-range dash cam from Nextbase, a company originally set up in 1999 to import portable entertainment systems from China. Since then, Nextbase has developed quite a large range of dash cams, so it’s a surprise that this is our first experience of the brand in this area – although we have come across the company’s other products, for example with the Walking Cinema Portable DVD Player. It won’t allow your battery to run flat, as it will turn off if it detects a certain voltage. Nextbase says it uses so little power in sleep mode that it will work even if you leave you car parked for several weeks. Nextbase 512GW: Performance Very simple to use. It's similar enough to previous models to make it very easy to operate if you've had a Nextbase cam in the past, but with a number of revolutionary new features. Aside from the various improvements to the footage quality and whatnot, which we'll get into, the first noticeable difference is the mounting system of the 522GW.

basically YES. If the rear camera is not plugged in at power on, then none of this happens ie no PiP appearance at all - and this is as it should be. Remove the 4 small cross-head screws from the corners of the circuit board (keep separately from the above screws, they are different.) There’s more: with the rear camera attached, you can’t opt to record high- and low-quality clips simultaneously as you can without it. Instead you’ll find front and rear clips on the microSD card. I'd recommend using a separate Camera such as a 312GW or 122 on the rear windscreen. You will need a separate power supply and SD card as it will not connect to your 512GW, but can be used as a Camera facing rearwards. The prices are comparable with the Series 2 Rear Cams, and if you'd like to keep using your 512GW, is the most viable option. I’d recommend using a separate Camera such as the 122 or 222 on the rear windscreen. You will need a separate power supply and SD card as it will not connect to your XXX, but can be used as a Camera facing rearwards. The Hi and Lo resolution files improve the speed of the Wi-Fi transfer, if you do not ever use this feature we're working on a setting to turn this off.It has been completely re-designed to provide a fresh new look and feel, for enhanced user experience. That's a good point Sam re false positives. I had previously turned mine off; potholes, speedbumps, etc trigger protection.

In daylight, you should be able to make out number plates and signs with no problems, unless they’re simply too far away. A GPS sensor is built-in, so information about location and speed is saved alongside the footage. This then allows the PC software to plot the location of the car on a map, which is a useful extra feature for proving where you were driving and at what speed to an insurer, should an accident happen.

Please remember that after this test your Dash Cam will once again need charging as the battery will be flat. Navigating through the various settings menus is simple since everything on-screen is clearly labelled. There are plenty of things to adjust, including settings for the frame rate and resolution, as well as switching audio recording on and off or setting a number plate for the camera car. Ah yes. It seemed an obvious autocorrect error, but I couldn't un-autocorrect it to anything sensible. I realise Nextbase probably won't fix this under warranty, but has anyone attempted to replace one of these batteries? Recently took a motoring holiday and as the 512 quality is full HD the dash cam footage forms an integral part of the finished holiday video, and I uploaded the days clips each evening, and cleared the card before the next days clips. This also ensured I never over-wrote the previous days footage when a heavy day occurred.

Thanks for this. So assuming both units are plugged in all the time, when switching on, you would still get that prompt ie where the pip should appear? Currently it is hard wired into a switched supply (cigarette lighter) and has parking mode disabled, the G sensor is also off. Go into Settings (the settings icon will show in the top left of the screen once a recording is stopped)The image quality of the 512GW is good in all kinds of different conditions including bright sunlight, rain and darkness. It’s easy to make out details like signs, the makes and models of cars, along with number plates. The field of view is 140 degrees, which is wide enough to capture a broad area ahead of the car. Impressively, Parking Mode is available on all the Series 2 Nextbase dash cams (122-522GW). If you're wondering where the 622GW is in the new range, it doesn't yet exist - so there's no 4K Series 2 dash cam. Not yet anyway, but we've heard that it's on the cards... Remove any rear Cameras or SD cards and press the reset button on the underside of the Dash Cam. Then turn the Dash Cam on. Please turn Parking Mode off and turn Screen Saver off as these could interfere with the test results. Take your Dash Cam inside and plug it into mains power or a computer using the Nextbase provided USB cable.
