About this deal

The Todd Terje remix of Bryan Ferry’s “Don’t Stop the Dance” is a powerful mix that demands to be played loud. Overall the P5 is a somewhat slow sounding headphone, with a very warm, forgiving sound and decent resolution that suits genres like jazz or chamber music. I own a pair and agree they are not a replacement for your favorite sit at home higher end audio headphone.

Comparing to on-ear Beyer T51p, P5 bass felt deeper and had a bit more quantity, while T51p Tesla drivers delivered more low end details. Please note that all TONE and TONE related text and images are copyright © 2005–2024 TONE Magazine and The Audiophile Apartment. They're neither too thin nor a ridiculous subwoofer-style assault on the ears; the low-end presence anchors the mix rather than overwhelming it. However, they're thinly padded, that, coupled with the on-ear design makes them feel slightly uncomfortable and tight at first. You can feel the body of instruments even if they could be more detailed, Grado's Hps on the contrary seems to loose some weight to instruments and voices even if they're perceived more detailed. One final note-- because of their flat profile, there are about five positions they can rest on your ear, and each sounds entirely different.

What’s cool is that the P5 headphones incorporate a completely new driver design borrowed from the flagship P7 headphone. Headphone measurements require more interpretation than speaker tests and have more of a requirement for subjective testing as a result. Macklemore’s album GEMINI features Kesha in Good Old Days where everything in the midrange are precise well reproduced. Vocals tracks present like you're in the audience not simply listening to recorded music and that perception extends to jazz and classical alike. Also, due to a construction with a removable connection inside of the earcup, I didn't sense any microphonics effect. For those who don't need full noise cancelling headphones, it's perfect for listening to music on the go. If you're gonna pull out all of your reference recordings and nitpick them to death, you are missing the point. Regarding cables, they do make difference especially using high quality gear which are more sensible to small changes.

Even with over ears the earpads made from synthetic material tends to irritate or heat up my ears after a few hours. Additionally, it’s great that you can still use the headphones when the battery dies via the provided cable. If I never went out in public I probably wouldn't use these, but for those of us that care, the sound compromise is not too great to outweigh how good these look IMO. Classical tracks, like the opening scene in John Adams' The Gospel According to the Other Mary, are graced with a slightly boosted low-end, adding a bit of pleasant resonance and spatial depth to the lower register instrumentation. Any recording and genere could be enjoyed in a satisfactory way because even if colored any parameter is in good condition.

Actually, let me reiterate the last statement because unboxing on-ear P5 felt like a deja vu since I already had a pleasure to test and to review its bigger brother: over-ear P7. I can’t believe that I’m referencing Mayday Parade in any sense, but their song Take This to Heart is a great example of what I’m talking about. Prior to my career in reviewing tech, I worked as an audio engineer—my love of recording audio eventually led me to writing about audio gear. The understated, classy P5 lineup is easily one of the best-looking headphone pairs made in the last decade.

You’d struggle to tell them apart at a glance, because they share a design philosophy - rounded rectangular earcups, sheep’s leather and twisted aluminium. THIRD: They're very sensitive to ear pads position, move pads up/down/front/rear to get best results for your head.So you don't have the best HF extension but it's good enough to enjoy details and the meaning of the music and interpeter. If you read subjective reviews, nobody really mentions bass being anemic, suggesting most people are able to get a good fit on their ears. The company has a long distinguished history amongst the audiophile community with their excellent product line of stereo speakers. The bassline is deep and taut, the drums kick hard and there's enough texture easily to make out Matt Bellamy's laboured breathing.
