The character Hairy Maclary made his first appearance in 1983 in the book titled Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy. However, the story ends with Schnitzel chasing a cat and the last page shows us that this ‘remarkable’ little dog, has managed to climb a tree. The breeds of dogs, the types of houses and the plants growing in each garden can generally be identified. We celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories, traditions and living cultures; and we pay our respects to Elders past and present.
