About this deal

Now available from Pamela Dorman Books. I thank my local library for providing me with a copy through the drive-up window. 🤣 Suddenly Stanhope doesn't feel so safe. And William isn't the only one on his street who's hiding a lie. As witnesses come forward with information that may or may not be true, Avery's neighbours become increasingly unhinged.

My heart was racing with anticipation to find the answers to the question of who took Avery Wooler. Gripping, clever, and tightly plotted, EVERYONE HERE IS LYING showcases Shari Lapena at her absolute best. I was utterly transfixed. A must-read.” In my unhinged opinny, the strongest part of the book was from 65% onward. I wasn't expecting it to go that direction, but I'm glad I did. Tbh had me feeling a lil uneasy. No spoilers but it will remind you of a very popular thriller. The Mertons, a wealthy couple from upstate New York, are brutally murdered in their palatial home after hosting a contentious family Easter dinner. The family has gathered for the annual Easter dinner, hosted by Fred and Sheila, and patriarch Fred has an announcement to make.

William Wooler has been having an affair, an affair that ended this afternoon at a motel up the road. When he comes home to find Avery, his difficult nine-year-old daughter, unexpectedly home from school, William loses his temper. Hours later, Avery's family declares her missing. Seek out this book. I tore through it. It kept me on my toes throughout and the ending was just fantastic. Really tense!” I highly recommend you read this if you are a fan of domestic psychological thrillers with short chapters and non-stop suspense and plot twists. It’s been said there are four motives for murder: Lust, Love, Loathing, or Loot. There’s no shortage of the latter two here. There are no tears shed for Fred and Sheila, but plenty of anticipation and elation at the thought of the inheritance. I loved how the author dropped little secrets/bombshells throughout the book about the characters, that made me see each of them with new eyes.I absolutely adore Shari Lapena’s compulsive thrillers and her new novel is her best yet. More twists than a roller coaster.” Or are they? They each stand to inherit millions. They were never a happy family, thanks to their vindictive father and neglectful mother, but perhaps one of them is more disturbed than anyone knew. Did someone snap after that dreadful evening? Or did another person appear later that night with the worst of intentions? That must be what happened. After all, if one of the family were capable of something as gruesome as this, you’d know.

However, I am also sad to say that the big revelation didn't come with a bang and it felt like it was just mentioned and done. A well developed cast of characters were delightfully malcontent and rotten to the core which meant that I was on board with any one of them being held culpable for the misdeeds happening here. The suspense here is real; Lapena does a great job of exposing layers of domestic dishonesty and betrayal one conversation at a time…[ Everyone HereIs Lying] succeeds as a domestic thriller and procedural.”

As the tension reached its peak, I couldn't help but feel a surge of adrenaline, my heart racing with anticipation. The final chapters delivered a satisfying resolution, tying up loose ends and leaving me with a sense of closure. It was a masterful conclusion that left me pondering. And their vindictive, extremely irritating auntie Audrey knows their secret, already pissed off to be excluded from half share of the wealth, smelling blood, coming after them. She thinks one of them killed her brother. Is she right? On the other hand, the characters were dead on perfect. Each more unlikeable than the last, the best was most certainly saved until the end. I don’t want to say too much, but with a manipulative, evil child at the center of the plot, plenty of fun was sure to be had. What was even more enjoyable, however, was the dealing out of punishments for each of the character’s transgressions. One by one, they each most certainly got exactly what they deserved. I rarely DNF books, and I almost never do it when I get a review copy, but I completely understand why one would chose not to finish this novel, as it was too repetitive with all the he said she said parts that it became boring. Maybe you have too much to drink. Maybe everybody has too much to drink. Comparisons between you and your siblings come up. Maybe even the dreaded political discussion and the next thing you know, you're throwing on your favorite wool peacoat and storming out into the night in a huff of thinly-veiled rage.
