About this deal

Saying that, I wish there had been more build up with Garretts manic depression - I feel like all of a sudden it was just a thing and we hadn't really had the opportunity to grow through it with him before he faced it head on. Running and avoiding relationships and work would not control a major chemical imbalance in his brain. Only problem is Mia has no idea the man she’s formed a connection with on the app is none other than Garrett and he intends for her to never find out. And that’s without touching on how EOM portrays sex workers or queer people🤦🏼‍♀️ tbh I felt iffy about queer rep in Praise (feel free to check out my review) but while book one just gave me weird vibes, this book made me mad.

There’s also a smattering of pretty negative commentary about women (“they’re catty bitches, most women are mean to each other and that’s why Mia doesn’t have women friends”) a weird comment about “skinny shaming” and after what felt like (to me, I could be wrong) a shallow dive into Garret’s depression, the reader is informed that Garret is ready to have a baby w/ Mia bc he’s been on antidepressants x therapy for a year, and also spent that year proving “that he had everything under control” which feels like not a great metric to measure mental health? Despite the squirmy setup, Cate handles touchy subjects—including her characters’ depression, anxiety, and drug use—with grace, and her sex scenes are as scorching as ever. Living in Arizona with her husband and kids, Sara spends most of her time working in her office with her Goldendoodle by her side.Like, these are not things someone says about a partner whose work and autonomy they respect👀 especially if he owns a fucking sex club! It's was the character connection for me that made a world of difference between the first book and this one. I’m hella excited for book 3, I definitely recommend reading this series if you haven’t read it yet. This book delves into some deeper themes involving mental health, and I absolutely adored how Cate handled this subplot. Even Garrett's mom has never understood him and his emotions and that is a very real problem many people with mental health issues face.

I seriously am riding a high, and writing this review and rereading quotes has me already wanting to reread it. This book has it all: taboo/step-sibling dynamic, age gap, cam girl FMC, voyeurism, exhibitionism, toys, and breeding kink, to name just a few. Superficial characters with no distinguishable personality traits other than voyeur and exhibitionist. If you love a good enemies to lovers, age gap, forbidden romance with an element of taboo, look no further! But overall I liked this book quite a lot, it’s a heavy one and it has a lot going on that made me cringe, but sometimes I like that cringey feeling if it’s done well, which it was. I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting older and I’m becoming more comfortable experiencing things outside of my comfort zone and experimenting with things that I was previously closed off to, whether that is in books or in my own personal life. This was incredibly sexual but it also touched on heavier topics as well and done in a way that felt natural and right. She has him wanting and doing things he said he'd never do again, like opening up and getting attached.

This book has a lot of themes, which Sara details before it begins, and I just wanted to say how well written it is <3. A lot of the qualities which lend themselves to the whole voyeur thing just don't jive all that well with my personal romance tastes. It was hot and steamy in all the right places but also managed to include mental health and show real light on feelings and real world issues, which I will always appreciate in a Sara Cate story. For a sex worker, she was quite naive about a lot of things and her attitude of 'I'm not gonna befriend other women because they're catty' is so immature. the sexual tension is high between the two so is the banter and her keeping her job s secret, add ice and a douche who outs you and mix a step brother who now doesn’t wanna do stuff because your a virgin.
