About this deal

According to a tweet from Sigmund Judge, SEE, For All Mankind, Truth Be Told and The Morning Show will be arriving to HD Blu-Ray and DVD throughout the next couple of months. Apple TV+ Original Series Arrives to DVD and Blu-Ray Dream Lover: Inside STRAIGHT ON TILL MORNING (16:05, 1080p) - this featurette was initially included in Studio Canal's German box set, Hammer Film Edition, which contains Straight on Till Morning and six other titles. SC also brought it over to the UK for its standalone 2018 release. Interviewed are Kevin Lyons (editor of eofftv.com), Jonathan Rigby (author of English Gothic), cultural historian John J. Johnston, and Alan Barnes (co-author of The Hammer Story). The interviewees offer a decent but relatively brief look at Hammer at the time and what they thought the film tried to convey. Stills and clips from the movie are intercut with their talking points. In English, not subtitled. Apple TV+ and Oprah partnership switches to project-by-project basis as the multi-year deal expires

NEW The Morning After – An Interview with Author/Film Historian Kim Newman (19:43, 1080p) - Newman posits Straight on Till Morning to where Hammer was in the late '60s/'70s, which he says was a desperate, "try anything" period for the studio. Hammer attempted to update their classics by ratcheting the gore and adding titillating sex. Hammer also expanded into making other genre pictures (e.g., adventurous thrillers). Newman envisions Straight on Till Morning as following the path set by Psycho and Peeping Tom (that of sexually ambiguous characters). Newman briefly discusses the careers of Tushingham, Briant, James Bolam, and Tom Bell. Nearly every title Newman mentions includes a cutaway to each one's poster. Another very excellent interview with Newman. In English, not subtitled. Many had assumed that Apple wanted full release exclusivity over everything that it bankrolled to ensure that paying for an Apple TV+ subscription would be the only way to watch some of its most popular shows. However, there’s actually no record of Apple ever saying any such thing. What’s particularly interesting about this, however, is what it reveals about Apple’s arrangements with the studios that are producing its original TV shows and movies.Beginning in the late 1960s, movie audiences were changing to a younger demographic, which compelled Hammer Films and other studios to produce a more diverse set of films. In addition to horror and monster pictures (its old reliable), Hammer rolled out action/adventure, fantasies, thrillers, and even comedies on its assembly line. Peter Collinson's thriller Straight on Till Morning (1972) was a byproduct of that evolving period. Jonathan Sothcott states in the recycled commentary on this disc that Hammer and producer Michael Carreras were grooming Shane Briant to become a young Peter Cushing. Briant co-stars with Rita Tushingham (another late-twenties actor) in a somewhat experimental film that Hammer was banking on becoming at least a moderate hit. Apple TV+ also recently revealed the trailer for season three of Mythic Quest, and, also just in time for the holiday season, announced that several Peanuts holiday classics will stream for free on certain dates. Then of course there’s Tom Hanks’ Greyhound, which was never supposed to be on Apple TV+ at all. This was a feature film from Sony Pictures that was in the can already and slated to appear in theatres last spring. When the pandemic hit, Hanks and the other producers were left with the difficult choice of either delaying the film or debuting it on Apple TV+. It’s important to keep in mind that, despite the Blu-Ray and DVD release, these shows won’t be distributed directly by Apple. Instead, they’ve been licensed to Dazzler Media, which is a publisher of movies and TV shows.

First spotted by 9to5Mac, the Apple original limited series Defending Jacob has just gotten a physical media disc release, marking the first time any show on Apple TV+ has been available in any other format. He ends up following her to a classroom where a group of natives are learning English. Cronauer takes over as teacher to get closer with the girl, but is stopped short by her brother. Cronauer becomes friends with her brother, but later on realizes there is something more afoot. On top of that, he is hassled at every corner by two military superiors for his non-conformist radio show... So Cronauer gives his famous “Gooooooood Morning Vietnam” line and the troops go insane with joy. Cronauer proceeds to do some comedy for the troops and he realizes he really is making their days better in the crude world of war. It's an amazing scene. Maybe in the top scenes in cinema if you ask me. Judge also noted that the seasons will only be available on DVD and Blu-Ray. At this time, there doesn’t seem to be any plans to put the seasons on UHD Blu-Ray.Serious Bender: Remembering THE MORNING AFTER – An Interview with Associate Producer/Assistant Director Wolfgang Glattes (12:07, 1080p) - Glattes talks about working with Bob Fosse and Lumet, who he says did pre-production in New York. Glattes also discusses filming in Los Angeles and the various locales around town. He compares Lumet's preparatory process and filming methods with that of Ingmar Bergman, who Glattes also collaborated with. He shares some telling anecdotes of Lumet on the set of The Morning After. Glattes speaks in English, not subtitled. Apple TV+ fans, some of your favorite Apple Original Series are arriving to DVD and Blu-Ray in thanks to Dazzler Media.

In the case of Defending Jacob, the disc set is being released by Paramount, which seems to have retained all the physical media rights for the show, since 9to5Mac notes that it has no Apple branding on it. In fact, Paramount has even included some previously unseen bonus content and special features that aren’t available on Apple TV+. Comment Lastly, while some may not see the point in physical media these days, the DVDs and Blu-Rays will be great for those that collect. At the same time, while it is highly unlikely that these Apple Originals will leave the streaming service, there may be instances when someone doesn’t have access to the internet, but they have access to a physical media player. Apple TV+ releases first trailer for “Emancipation” starring Will Smith ahead of premiere on Dec 9, 2022 From the start, Apple TV+ has been all about the kind of exclusive original shows that you can’t find on any other service. However, it now appears that the “exclusive” part may not be as significant as we originally believed, with at least one major Apple TV+ series hitting the shelves on Blu-ray and DVD this week.
