About this deal

Martin, Kristyn (March 19, 2020). "Coronavirus social distancing rules change how Humans of New York tells stories". Yahoo . Retrieved April 20, 2020. I mean drugs, food, shopping, money, whatever. I ain't judging anybody, either. I was hooked on heroin for years. But now I’ve learned that every feeling will pass if you give it time. And if you learn to deal with your feelings, they'll pass by faster each time. So don't rush to cover them up by medicating them. You've got to deal with them.’” Based on the blog with more than four million loyal fans, a beautiful, heartfelt, funny, and inspiring collection of photographs and stories capturing the spirit of a city Lamothe, Dan (August 21, 2016). "Humans of New York decided to profile veterans. The response has been overwhelming". Washington Post . Retrieved January 11, 2019. His grandmother and I are raising him. I worry about putting him into the public school system. I was a teacher for many years. I’ve seen so much confidence destroyed by the standardized system. Every human is born with natural curiosity. I’ve never seen a child who wasn’t inspired. But once you force someone to do anything, the inspired person is killed. I dropped out of school myself in 7th grade. So I know. I taught a GED course for years, so I’ve seen the end results over and over. I’ve seen so many kids who have complexes and insecurities because they were forced to do something they weren’t ready to do, and then they were blamed when they weren’t able to do it. What we call ‘education’ today is not organic. You can’t take something as complex as the human mind, compartmentalize it, and regiment its development so strictly.”

In August, he decided to leave everything and decided to go to New York, to live for his passion: photos and people. When we get in trouble, she doesn't suspend us. She calls us to her office and explains to us how society was built down around us. And she tells us that each time somebody fails out of school, a new jail cell gets built. And one time she made every student stand up, one at a time, and she told each one of us that we matter." Tharoor, Ishaan (August 27, 2015). " 'Humans of New York' photographer finds humans of Iran". The Washington Post . Retrieved October 12, 2015. Bringing Richard home, the story of a crowd-funded adoption". CNN. November 1, 2013 . Retrieved January 31, 2014.In 2019, Stanton introduces his audience to the striptease artist Tanqueray, who later becomes a niche icon. Stanton’s interview technique involves something he has described as “following the heat,” in which he finds his subject’s most tender spots and probes until he elicits something deep. And in this first conversation with the woman from Arkansas, he focused on why she would have felt so powerless when her husband was not hitting or explicitly threatening her. “Most men control women through fear of violence or psychological abuse,” he told her. What specific thing was her husband doing to control her? She described how her husband would make her eat ice cream when she was trying to lose weight and how, during a visit to her parents, he bullied her into saying she loved him more than she did them. When she described how she groveled at her husband’s feet, begging forgiveness, Stanton continued to press. As it continued, Stanton’s interrogation started to feel both oppressive and naïve. He said, “In every story, I want to understand — ” From Passu, Pakistan: "When I’m bored, I call up Radio Pakistan and request a song, then I start dancing. I'll even dance on a rainy day. I am the happiest man in Pakistan." (p. 227) Kweifio-Okai, Carla (September 5, 2014). "Humans of New York blogger hits the road for world tour". The Guardian . Retrieved October 12, 2015.

One thing that he claims is 'randomness.' I understand the point of the essay in which he claims that, because he's contrasting his efforts to talk to ordinary ppl with most media's efforts to find the most dramatic or exciting image. He's right to point out that most media misleads, because most people are relatively happy or content most of the time... many Pakistanis have thanked him for showing the good side of their country. Photographs record moments in time that otherwise would be lost forever. Nothing portrays the personality of an individual as their photograph. In this collection Brandon Stanton set out to capture through his lens the people he calls ”The Humans of New York”. He captions each photograph with a story, either his own or that of the person in the photo. Book Genre: Adult, Art, Autobiography, Biography, Inspirational, Memoir, New York, Nonfiction, Photography, Short Stories, Sociology

I wasn’t at Stanton’s house for 20 minutes before he started to cry. When he interviews people, he always starts with “What is your biggest struggle right now?” And when I posed that question to him, he began by describing how difficult it was to attain his success and how single-minded he had been in the pursuit of it. When he was 19, he went through a phase of being very religious. He was Christian, not in the churchgoing way but in a “God is love” kind of way, and he insisted to people he would write a great novel that would contain the wisdom of the ages and share it with the world. The intensity of his faith eventually dimmed, but today, as he sat in his living room contemplating the unlikely string of events that had made his achievement possible, he could only regard it as a miracle. Out of nothing, he had made something massive that held meaning for millions. “Just through working hard, I managed to arrive in a position where I had the power to help more people and do more good than I could have possibly imagined,” he said.
