About this deal

Anthony, Andrew (24 September 2013). "Robert Harris: 'Whenever a crowd is running one way, I run the other' ". The Guardian . Retrieved 9 December 2015.

Set in the dying days of the Roman Republic, Marcus Cicero begins his ascent through the ranks of the senate to become one of the most powerful men in Rome. But the path to becoming the famous orator we now know is strewn with dangerous men who would see a high-minded lawyer dead in a ditch to get what they want. Men like Pompey and Julius Caesar who are looking to destroy democracy for a military dictatorship and absolute power. All three books in the trilogy were adapted for the stage in the year 2017 by Mike Poulton. “Imperium” was serialized as the Book at Bedtime on BBC Radio 4 September 2006. Koliko me je lako kupiti... PMQ, short story in the collection Speaking with the Angel. London: Penguin, 2 November 2000 ISBN 978-0-14-029678-5 The worldbuilding is fair - I would say that McCullough does do a better job of evoking how different the culture of the Republic was, whereas Harris' Rome feels distinctly modern and rather British. I don't consider it a major problem, though, since his style lends itself more to dynamic plotting and dialogue rather than lush detail. Whenever I think of it, gorgeous domus come to my mind — fresh fountains in gardens, luminous atriums, fresco wall paintings, marble busts, bronze statues...

Harris was a columnist for The Sunday Times, but gave it up in 1997. He returned to journalism in 2001, writing for The Daily Telegraph. [26] He was named "Columnist of the Year" at the 2003 British Press Awards. [27] Personal life [ edit ]After leaving Cambridge, Harris joined the BBC and worked on news and current affairs programmes such as Panorama and Newsnight. In 1987, at the age of 30, he became political editor of the newspaper The Observer. He later wrote regular columns for The Sunday Times and The Daily Telegraph. The Cicero Trilogy collects Robert Harris’ Cicero novels: Imperium, Lustrum (published as Conspirata in the States), and Dictator. I gave Imperium four stars out of five, and Lustrum and Dictator both get two out of five, so I’ll give the trilogy an overall score of three stars out of five. I reviewed each book individually below - enjoy!
