About this deal

Along the way, she meets true friends and dire enemies. She learns exactly what she's capable of and she manages to piss off some very, very important people. Ansel stalked past her and said, "You're just a spoiled, selfish bitch." The Assassin and the Pirate Lord - Celaena Sardothien and her ever-present companion (Sam) are sent to secure a deal with the Pirate Lord on behalf of their master (Arobynn). Sam smiled, his brown eyes turning golden in the dawn. It was such a Sam look, the twinkle of mischief, the hint of exasperation, the kindness that would always, always make him a better person than she was.” The Assassin and the Underworld - Arobynn allows Celaena to return under a few conditions. She accepts but remains wary of him. He sends her to kill a man involved in the Empire's slave trade and during the process, Celaena becomes absolutely shattered by her own actions. She swears off Arobynn and the Assassin's Guild - forever.

Caelena Sardothien is an assassin, or at least she was until she was captured and forced into captivity and slavery. When the Crown Prince finds her and offers her one shot a freedom, she has no choice but to accept his offer. She is to be placed into a competition (with all men) as Prince Dorian's champion and fight to become a royal assassin. will live in the castle and be trained by the Captain of the Guard Chaol Westfall. When one of the other competitors turns up dead, Caelena discovers there is a lot more going on in the castle than she expected. This is the kind of book that once you're finished reading, you'll need all the chocolates and ice cream to stuff yourself with and all the comedy movies to watch, because the gaping hole and emotional heaviness it leaves you with is slightly torturous. If you haven't read Throne of Glass and the novellas are the first time you have ventured into the world of Celeana Sardothian then stop reading here as there are spoilers next. For anyone who has read Throne of Glass then you already know the fate of a certain character and so my review as below should offer no further spoilers than what you already know. Gimme gimme gimme a Chaol after midnight and a Prince like Dorian to take my troubles away' - and music please !!!! He’s an amazing warrior; he’s taught me far more than I would have learned without him. So they can tease me all they want, but at the end of the day, he’s still the one giving me extra attention when we train.

The Assassin’s Blade was a great introduction to the series. I was immediately invested in the story. I do love a flawed and fierce fmc. Even though her boneheaded reactions and stubbornness made my eye twitch. Each novella was loaded with action, twists, life lessons, and so much heart. I was screaming, gasping, gasping some more, rolling my eyes, and sobbing. THE PAIN. Utterly devastated. This is likely going to be my favorite SJM series.

The answer is an unequivocal YES. After reading the previous books, you may not be a big Chaol fan (I don’t get this personally, I think he’s fine, but I know plenty of people who hate him), but the response is undeniable: Tower of Dawn is a must read. In the third novella- The Assassin and the Desert- She finally reaches the Red Desert to the Silent Assassins keep in the middle of the desert. Where she is tested by the mute master and here she meets her first friend Ansel. She keeps thinking about Sam. She trains here with the other assassins. When one day Ansel and Calaena go into town they steal two Asterion horses kingdoms worth. The mute master is very angry with them but is impressed when Calaena takes the blames even though Ansel was the one behind it. Ansel betrays her and everybody at silent assassins keep. She saves the mute master who in return gives her trunks full of gold to pay off her debts. And the ending to this book rules, too, by the way. Spoilers obviously prevent me from explaining myself, but do yourself a favour and read this book. Get to the end, and there's no force on earth that will be able to stop you from going straight onto the sequel. The good guys come out on top (or do they?) love is lost (or is it?) the bad guys are beaten (but are they?) but there's one thing in this review I am not going to contradict myself with. Sarah J Maas has written a YA fantasy classic for the ages, written in a way that people from all walks of life can read and enjoy it. Four stars for a fantastic beginning to an already legendary series; only the slow opening half stops me from awarding it full marks. Free and independent, Celaena feels that the world is opening the doors. But after a month, she and Sam have not yet received any contract. Realizing that they are still in the grip of Arobynn, they decide to take the plunge: to leave Rifthold for good. More motivated than ever Sam and Celaena accept a dangerous assignment that pays well, but at what price? Freedom and love that slowly, slowly disappear before their eyes, just when they had begun to taste it. Destroyed and without Sam with her, Celaena is sent to Endovier. But in that hell she makes a promise to herself; she will find out who hurt her and Sam. Because her name is Celaena Sardothien and she will never be afraid.

It’s funny, even though I knew what was well coming, I just was evry bit emotional as the first, second, third, fourth, fifth time reading it! I felt Celaena’s anticipation, her desperation, her grief, feeling like everything was a void, knowing that someone betrayed her, causing her to lose everything she held close. Utter despair, however, turns into total determination not to break further and ready to face what’s to come. But as i said at the top of this review, the book really comes alive in the second half, and that is putting things mildly. The story ... and the castle it is set in ... reveals layers upon layers (upon layers) of mystique, age old legends, forbidden magic and even (*gasps*) hints of sex, and the mother of all doosies, a cute puppy. Seriously, I *love* that puppy. It doesn't take Einstein to imagine that the puppy will grow into a character that has a major role to play in future volumes, but who cares, right? Puppies rule, dogs rule, magic rules, and fantasy books rule. And my naïve me decided that she’d survive it! That it couldn’t be that bad, that it would be okay! I mean I already knew what would happen, so how could it hurt?

The main problem there, though, is that there is a MAJOR cliffhanger at the end of Empire of Storms and a lot of people want to skip Tower of Dawn entirely because of it. So that’s why I recommend reading Tower of Dawn first. But you can decide what’s best for you.

When I first meet Sam in The Assassin and The Pirate Lord I wasn’t a fan of him. I felt like he was a snake in the grass waiting to strike. I did have a feeling that he did like Celaena but I thought he wanted power more. But as the book went on my feelings towards him changed. But then this book changed my opinion of him completely. He really does care for her and as it shows she does care about him as well. It’s young love, it’s sweet, innocent and beautiful. And it won't make sense, if you haven't read the first one, and after that . . . Well, why not just read them all?
