About this deal

As previously mentioned, this is exactly the same transfer as the 2018 disc. There was some internet butt scuttle that Superman: The Movie would yet again get a new 4K scan and restoration, but I never saw anything confirmed or denied from Warner Bros. If a new scan/restoration happened, it’s not here leading me to doubt that it ever did happen or that if it did, it didn't yield any improvement. Bit for bit this is the same Dolby Vision/HDR10 transfer - which I’m perfectly okay with. This film always had a soft diffused, dreamy look thanks to Geoffrey Unsworth’s signature cinematography (Reginald H. Morris who shot A Christmas Story and Murder By Decree in a similar fashion was also in the camera department under Unsworth). While it’s naturally soft-appearing, there are still impressive details to soak in and enjoy. I thought this was a beautiful transfer five years ago and I still think so today. Superman II Don’t worry this collection includes the both versions of Superman II meaning you get the Theatrical Cut and The Richard Donner Cut on 4K.

Hi, I have loved Superman II for years, so much affection for them. Then, it was a long, long time before I could bear watching them. I just couldn't watch them while Mr Reeves was going through what he and his family did. There are also new 4K individual releases of Superman II (1980) (Theatrical & Donner Cut), Superman III (1983) and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987). Digitally there are no compression issues, and the original source has cleaned up extremely well, with no pops or scars and it maintains a decent enough grain structure for the most part, to allow that organic nature to shine through. Individual Score: 8 However, Shane isn't just a movie guy. He also loves video games. Super Mario Sunshine, The Last of Us Part 1 and 2, and Batman: Arkham City are some of his favorites. Music plays a big part in his life as well. Given that Shane's a big horror fan, you might be surprised to learn that he's a pop guy. Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Dua Lipa, The Jonas Brothers, and Demi Lovato play on repeat while he's writing. There was always going to be a sequel to the 1978 smash hit, the majority of it was filmed at the same time; but with production issues the sequel that was released, despite the commercial and critical success that it was, was not the film as it was intended to be; that took a few more years to be released, and while both have something to say, have differing emphasis and are received differently depending on the audience, the fact that we have a choice is only a good thing.

Normally, some time here and there makes little difference, usually a curiosity that I wouldn't think would affect my enjoyment of the movie. Meet Gus Gorman (Richard Pryor), a naive computer-programming natural. For him a keyboard is a weapon – and, as a result, Superman faces the microelectronic menace of his life. Christopher Reeve reprises his signature role, deepening his character’s human side as Clark Kent sees Lana Lang (Annette O’Toole) at a Smallville High class reunion. And when the Man of Steel becomes his own worst enemy after exposure to Kryptonite, Reeve pulls off both roles with dazzling skill. Relive Superman III with all its heart, heroism and high-flying humor. Last year, I finally summoned up the courage to watch Superman I again, and then I saw that there was now a 'new' Donner cut. Meet Gus Gorman (Richard Pryor), a naive computer-programming natural. For him a keyboard is a weapon – and, as a result, Superman faces the microelectronic menace of his life. Christopher Reeve reprises his signature role, deepening his character's human side as Clark Kent sees Lana Lang (Annette O'Toole) at a Smallville High class reunion. Director Richard Donner began shooting Superman II while concurrently filming Superman: The Movie, though the theatrical version of the film was ultimately directed by Richard Lester. In 2006, Donner’s original unique vision was released for the first time. Jor-El (Marlon Brando in footage cut from the theatrical version) appears in key scenes that amplify Superman lore and deepen the relationship between father and son. Lois Lane plots more schemes to unmask Clark Kent as Superman. With so many changes, large and small, including a different beginning and resolution, this version is an eye-opening alternate experience. SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE, SUPERMAN II, SUPERMAN II: THE RICHARD DONNER CUT, SUPERMAN III, AND SUPERMAN IV: THE QUEST FOR PEACE WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR THE FIRST TIME AS A REMASTERED COLLECTION IN 4K RESOLUTION WITH HIGH DYNAMIC RANGE (HDR) Ironic too, because Superman II is a great movie, just because something is fluff doesn't mean it's not great art - it is. It's just that sometimes with broad brush strokes you can still create a work of complexity - without actually including anything too complex or involved. All right, we’ve been waiting for Warner Bros. Home Entertainment to make their official announcement of this release, and now they finally have. Here’s the studio’s press release... Warner Bros. is set to release a 10 disc Superman I-IV – 4K Ultra HD Steelbook Collection collecting together all five theatrical cuts of the Christopher Reeve Superman films (including both versions of “Superman II”).

In the scene Superman is navel gazing and it really doesn't work.If you turn Superman into Hamlet you either defeat the point of Superman or defeat the point of Hamlet. Also, from a script perspective it's all well and good having Mr Brando on screen for a piece of cinema fluff, it's great fluff but fluff it is. So, unless you have a much different script, if you're going to go for high drama you bloomin' welll better achieve it. Mr Brando, as we know was one of the greatest screen actors ever, using him for fluff is fine, but if you a script where even he can't make the words work, you really are going to look daft. So as Superman's Dad, the scene with Superman just comes across as very poor drama. If you’re a fan of the Christopher Reeve Superman movies then Warner Bros has a treat for you this April 2023. Superman I-IV Steelbook Collection 4K Ultra HD arrives on the Monday 17th April 2023 in the UK. After Superman 1 came out, Donner started bad mouthing the producers, eventually was fired from finishing 2 in March 79. I doubt this was the sole reason he got fired, though. The producers owed a lot of money to various investors, and to cut costs on the second film, plus the fact that they didn't want Warner Bros. to contribute to the budget, they decided to get rid of Donner and remove Brando.
