About this deal

It will be released as a deluxe box set and a 5-CD set, and we are also reissuing Sonic Temple on Double LP, which has been out of print for over 20 years. LP3 contains Live At Wembley recorded by the BBC, and the included cassette contains limited-release demos. Parke Puterbaugh of Stereo Review considered that the band "borrows its inspiration" from Led Zeppelin, Queen and other AOR heroes from the hard rock Seventies, but "there's something perversely addictive about this music, with its upfront aggression and its slow-motion orgasms of drums and guitars building to a raunchy climax. Beggars Arkive will reissue this album in three physical variations including a 5CD super deluxe box set with the album, B-sides, remixes demos and live tracks and a 3LP+cassette box set which covers similar ground. This is really clear in New York City, which not only has a slightly varied chord progression in the chorus, but also includes a bit of piano.

However, 'Sonic Temple' is not all about Billy Duffy and his beloved instrument, as the album cover misleadingly suggests. The Cults best album and one of my favorite all time LPs, together with GNRs Appetite for Destruction they are both peak 80s rock before grunge arrived and took over. Unfortunately, this was Stewart's last album with The Cult before his untimely departure, leaving the band the year following 'Sonic Temple's release. The genre mostly died in the 90s, save a few exceptions, leaving a huge gap between more mainstream rock and the ever evolving metal genres. In a less enthusiastic review for The Village Voice, Robert Christgau wrote: "Having risen from cultdom as a joke metal band metal fans were too dumb to get, they transmute into a dumb metal band. Billy Duffy still uses his guitar to the full effect, purposefully weaving his well executed solos in and out of every song, and also having the talent to make those solos fit.

The box is a two piece, lift-off lid type and has a foam inner tray with recess areas for the cassette and backstage pass. On 4 October 2019, Sonic Temple was re-released as a 5-CD box set and as a 2 LP/1 cassette box set, with a different cover, the original album digitally remastered, numerous rarities, a live album recorded at London Wembley Arena and a comprehensive booklet featuring rare photos and background info on the album and the band. This is adds diversifies the sounds of the album a bit and prevents every instrument from stepping on each others' toes. The 3LP vinyl package with the cassette is limited to 3,000 units and comes with a host of facsimile memorabilia including replica of original laminate, backstage pass, original press releases, and the like.

Even worse, by the time Sonic Temple’s taxing, world-spanning tour eventually wound down in the summer of 1990, it was founding bassist Jamie Curry’s turn to tender his resignation, leaving Duffy and Astbury to steer the Cult’s legacy. The album features some of the band's most popular songs, including " Fire Woman" and "Edie (Ciao Baby)". Fire Woman is a song for the eternity, an absolute masterpiece, one of the staples of all hard rock music.

Softer numbers such as the solemn yet perhaps too-long-for-its-own-good 'Soul Asylum' and unreleased bonus track 'The River' show Duffy's more melodic side to his own talent, rather than aiming purely for a rock vibe. Butthe long and tortuous road that had brought the Cult this widespread acceptance was bound to claim its bounty. The box set contains three pieces of blue vinyl and a cassette with a blue shell in an O-card, plus tour memorabilia and ephemera (replica of original laminate, backstage pass with a lanyard, original press releases, glossy photographic prints, label copy and more).

Review Summary: The Cult had a challenge to build on the enormous success granted by 'Love' and 'Electric'. Now cut onto two pieces of black vinyl, the audio is improved and contains 16 tracks total, which comprise the original album plus 6 B-sides. Taylor’s Version) [From The Vault] Now That We Don’t Talk (Taylor’s Version) [From The Vault] “Slut! Even in middle life, Cult frontman Ian Astbury flashes the wide-eyed bemusement of an adolescent punker struggling to identify with stodgy, sensible grown-ups. From day one, the British group kept everyone guessing, as they relentlessly evolved from the post-punk / Goth / New Wave / new romantic smorgasbord of 1984’s Dreamtime, through the sparkling nouveau psychedelia of 1985’s Loveto the roughneck blue-denim hard rock of 1987’s Electric.
