About this deal

Speaking in her ambassador role for charity Missing People, Kate said about the twin teens: "They have their own friends and they keep busy and they're really sporty but their only wish is for their big sister to come home. We miss our complete family of five. This inspirational novella will warm your heart and show you the power of love to change lives. If you are a fan of well-written fast reads that leave you feeling good, this book is for you. I am not won over by Kate's writing and still wonder why they couldn't do what other families do on holiday - eat early and go home, take pushchairs and let em sleep next to the table or even take it in turns to go out but no THEY WENT OUT EVERY NIGHT. Dr Kate agonises over the press involvement: “No longer was it about our lovely missing daughter; it was becoming the Kate and Gerry show”. On 20 July the PJ asked the National Policing Improvements Agency for ‘advisory assistance’. A Serious Organised Crime Officer, Jose de Freitas, who was bilingual, came over to Portugal to help with the enquiry. “We found out later (much later) that the UK team had been instructed by the PJ to proceed on the basis that Madeleine had been killed and her body dumped”.

MADDIE AGONY Heartbreak for Maddie McCann’s family as her younger twin siblings turn 18 today without missing sister being foundSome people suggest that the book is some kind of money making exercise on Kates part, which is an appalling thing to say. This seeks to really rub Kate and Gerry's nose in it, as if they haven't suffered enough. Kate & Gerry must be living every day in a nightmare and how they manage to function and bring up the twins is incredible testimony to their strengths as parents. They can only "wake up" from the nightmare, when some concrete news of Madeline is found. Kate blames almost everyone for Madeleine’s disappearance, but barely a word of self-reproach about their parental negligence. A good few chapters in there is mention of it but once again in answer to the rebukes rather than any guilt over their parenting skills.

If they were indeed responsible for Madeleine's accidental death and subsequent cover-up, how did they manage to keep that from the hordes of family and friends who turned up in Portugal to support them? And over five months? The whole book just comes off as a plea from Kate to not think she was a bad person. Well she was. Any parent who leaves their child alone for a meal is not a fit parent, but to do this every single night you're on holiday? It's wrong and a crime. And the sad thing is, if this had happened to someone who was less fortunate that Kate and Gerry in the finance department, they would have been charged or arrested for child neglect. Oh the joys of the middle class getting better treatment. I didn't enjoy the writing style of whoever wrote this. It was reported at the time of publication that JK Rowling lent her assistance, but this has been denied since - with sources saying that the only connection there was that they shared a literary agent.

There is no mention whatsoever of any attempt by wither the McCanns or by the Find Madeleine Fund to sue Halligen for his obviously fraudulent conduct. The part in the book where Kate tells of coming home to England and walking in their house is heartbreaking, and you would have to experience that heartbreak to able to write it as she did.
