About this deal

Traditional fireplace dampers leak, so sealing your fireplace flue is smart when you aren’t using it like during the off-season. This action is different than sealing the flue itself, which runs the length of the chimney. Here, you’ll be sealing off the flue’s mouth from your home to prevent drafts when the fireplace isn’t in use. The total price will be made clear before you proceed any further. Vertical flues can pose issues due to the need to direct the duct through the roof space. Boiler flue definition: A boiler flue is a component that enables gas to escape safely from the boiler. In most cases, this is a pipe or a duct, which is fitted to the boiler to carry exhaust gases away from your home safely. To avoid smoke seeping into your room, you don’t want any gaps through the components of your stove system where it might get out. Equally, to avoid causing damage to your stove and get the most value from the fuel you burn, you do not want air to be able to get into your stove through such gaps and cause the appliance to operate at too high a temperature. The condensed, cooled gases are subsequently expelled through the flue from the device. Depending on the effectiveness of the appliance and the calibre of the fuel being burnt, the flue may also expel minute amounts of combustion byproducts like carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides in addition to the gases created by the burning of fuel.

There are few options that will allow you to easily seal off your flue: a silicone rubber seal or inflatable sealer. Both are efficient at sealing off the flue, even more so than traditional dampers, and are relatively inexpensive. Sealers can be found at chimney supply stores, masonry stores, or online. BS 5440 Part 1: 2008 (1) does not state exactly what material is to be used to seal and secure. Where a manufacturer provides specific guidance on how to correctly seal and secure the chimney/flue, this guidance shall be followed.
