About this deal

When the economy collapses and the world turns into survival mode, Miranda and her daughter, Emma, have no choice but to go to Femlandia. A women-only community set up by Miranda’s mother, Win. Except what they find, is no safe-haven. Credit to Dalcher though, for attempting such an unlikable protagonist. While Miranda’s choice to not have faith in her mother’s separatist views makes Win dislike her, it isn’t enough for a reader to do the same—we know better than Win does that disliking someone because they choose a different life than you is not acceptable. No, what makes Miranda truly unlikeable is her self righteousness, and her in basic inability to connect with others, including her daughter, though there are many instances when she does and thinks terrible things that, in her mind, prioritise Emma. One would perhaps empathise with her daughter in this regard, but even that is difficult, since Emma (like most of the characters in this book) is fairly flat too. Much later in the book, we are given an unexpected insight into why Emma disconnects from her mother so easily and rapidly; an insight that doesn’t really add up since we don’t really much about Emma’s character in the first place. The Finlandia hymn is often proposed as an official national song or anthem of Finland. [3] International anthem [ edit ]

Miranda Reynolds always thought she would rather die than live in Femlandia. But that was before the country sank into total economic collapse and her husband walked out in the harshest, most permanent way, leaving her and her sixteen-year-old daughter with nothing. The streets are full of looting, robbing, and killing, and Miranda and Emma no longer have much choice—either starve and risk getting murdered, or find safety. And so they set off to Femlandia, the women-only colony Miranda’s mother, Win Somers, established decades ago. This is NOT a story about feminism. This book is not even pro-feminism. It is a shallow, bland and exclusionary thriller, disguised as "turning a utopia on it's head" like that's something ground-breaking.The company changed hands several times before being bought by British conglomerate, Diageo, in 2003. my problems with this book aren't ideological—i don't read books to see my beliefs mirrored, nor do i read books to have my beliefs challenged. i'm willing to roll along wherever the author chooses to have their characters take me, but at the end of it all, i want there to have been a purpose for the journey—not necessarily a lesson or a stance, but give me something to digest at the end of it; even something as writing 101 as setting or character growth or conflict resolution. Finlandia Cosmopolitan Another one of the many self-plagiarising ideas that we see used in all 3 of these novels is the idea of the "easily indoctrinated child". A chilling and layered read which I couldn't put down. A true modern horror which exposes the dangers of a world without gender equity and ends with a horrifying sense of circularity.’Directions: Simply combine all ingredients in a highball glass over ice and stir gently. Garnish with a lime wedge if desired. Finlandia Lemon Twist Finlandia Vodka is available in most liquor stores, as well as many supermarkets. You can also buy it online from a variety of retailers. How Much Does Finlandia Vodka Cost? I thought this book was going to be about a community of women thriving without the need for men. But I was wrong. So wrong.
