About this deal

Okay that was S T U N N I N G 😍😍😍 I expected to enjoy it but nobody told me it was this good??!! 🤭🤭 I'm obsessed!! 💗💗 The whole cast starting from the barely present Serel to the adorable machine of destruction that is young Moth, are beautifully done with each one of them having a vital role and just the enough depth that they could easily make their own books.

There were parts of it that really gripped me and parts that felt somewhat underdeveloped. But thinking about it and comparing it to a lot of fantasy romances that have been published these past few years, this had a really solid start for me. It had me engaged enough to want to continue on with the series because I can only see it getting better. THERE WERE SOME HEAVY themes in this book which I thought added complexity to the story - war, mass slaughter, slavery, rape, etc. Due to these heavier themes, I would say this leans more towards new adult/adult than YA My favourite characters are Tisaanah, Max, Reshaye, Nura and Sammerin with my favourite overall being Tisaanah as she's just a very well-written character, though I do have a soft spot for Reshaye. Tisaanah is a fantastic FMC! ✨ She is strong, witty, incredibly resilient, and has more street smarts than I could ever hope to acquire. Book Genre: Adult, Fantasy, Fantasy Romance, Fiction, High Fantasy, Magic, New Adult, Paranormal, Romance, Young Adult, Young Adult FantasyTisaanah stubbornly sits outside Max’s door until it gets so cold that he lets her inside. He allows her to stay, but still refuses to train her. During this period, Tisaanah meets Max’s very-smooth best friend Sammerinand his explosively disaster-prone apprentice Moth.

I don't know how or when this went from a DEfiNitE fiVe sTaR ReAd to a whopping three stars but it did and here we are 🌝 it’s very rare for me to find myself liking both main characters but i loved them both!! i can’t wait to see how their story develops in the next books! they’re both so powerful and i love that they don’t necessarily need each other but they’re able to become stronger together. The next day, Tisaanah is summoned to the Towers. On the steps, Max seems to have some an epiphany and begs Tisaanah not to go – but still refuses to tell her why. Tisaanah, knowing that two people could never do alone what she needed to do, still goes to the meeting. I personally found the second half was stronger than the first half. There’s something that was introduced that made me want to keep reading. The icing on the cake was how naïve she was sometimes. I hadn’t been through any of what she had, yet I had to keep reminding myself she was my age, not younger. Besides, there was a subtle I’m not like other girls vibe that got into my nerves. In a wild surge of fury, Tisaanah lashes out at Esmaris with her magic, and accidentally kills him.

Daughter of No Worlds felt like it was written just for me, an impeccable balance of all my favourite things in Romantic Fantasy executed with grace and with the kind of weight that I like to see. It almost feels like a conversation with Kushiel’s Dart. The premise is so similar and yet the execution is miles apart. Kushiel’s Dart wanted to have a conversation about women and sex in SFF, but Daughter of No Worlds wanted to celebrate women and romance in SFF. Tisaanah is entirely self-taught, which means her grasp on magic is not as strong as it could be, and she primarily uses her magic to sense the emotions of other people. Our FMC comes from a land where she was ripped away from her family at a young age and sold into slavery. She manages to escape once she is 21 and sails across the sea, basically on the verge of death. When she arrives she seeks out a magical organization with the power to help her free her friends from slavery. However, their help comes at a cost and she is told that she must be accepted into the organization and prove her magical usefulness. She is sent to the last remaining member who is capable of training her. He is ornery, unwilling and altogether unpleasant. And though it takes time she finally wins him to her side and he trains her. This is only the first 1/2 of the story and much more unravels as our FMC gains control over her magic and court intrigue, betrayals and secrets are unveiled. Max ❤️ oh how I love the dark, broken book boyfriends. When we first meet Max, he is grumpy versus Tisaanah’s sunshine...and slowly, slowly he begins to thaw. See, he has lost everyone he ever loved too - and he blames himself for it every day. But when he realizes that the powers that be have deceived Tisaanah into following the same devastating path that caused him to lose everything - well, he decides he won’t let that happen again either. i am so soft for the romance that was ignited in this book because it was slowly building and it just felt so right and the tension was just so perfectly planned and panned out that i have no faults for basically anything in this book besides that my heart was squeezed in sadness for a good majority of me reading this but! it's fine carissa broadbent, i forgive you :,) ♡Like I said, Tisaanah escapes captivity, bearing marks of what she went through, and this aftermath of the premise is where Broadbent’s skills truly shine. Tisaanah now must learn to use her magic and she throws herself at it with all the stubbornness (determination?) that allowed her to survive the “Look at me” chapter. And truly, the magic in this world is gorgeous. Fascinating and engrossing and at times terrifying. She’s being taught by her reluctant teacher Maxantarius (I love me a grumpy reluctant/positive sunshine dynamic) who is bitingly hilarious. Most of the passages I highlighted were because I laughed literally out loud at Max’s dialogue, or Tisaanah’s impression of him. For example:

I gave this a shot, largely on the very lovely cover (though the blurb didn't hurt, either). I made it nearly two-fifths through before putting it down and now I just don't feel like continuing. I was very ready to like Tisaanah and heaven knows that her situation invokes every sympathy I have, not to mention the inner paladin that cries out to right the wrongs done her. At first they both disliked each other so much but the more they spent time together, the more they tried to know each other and they tried to understand their choices and their behaviour. I loved how their friendship developed from a trainer-trainee relationship to friends and then to lovers. They both always helped each other no matter what situation is and Max gave Ti a home. A home she never knew she needed. Everything about them is comfort ❤️‍🩹 I instantly knew I was going to fold for Max…there’s just something about him that I can’t quite put my finger on… dark hair, blue eyes, high cheek bones, ripped bod…hmmm yeah not too sure what it could have been… The development of the relationship between Tisaanah and him and the budding romance is not a surprise at all, but I still enjoyed reading about their interactions SO MUCH. How they slowly figured out that the other also had many mental and physical scars, and that maybe they could help each other to heal, or at least to feel less alone... It was perfectly done. ❤️

Ripped from a forgotten homeland as a child, Tisaanah learned how to survive with nothing but a sharp wit and a touch of magic. But the night she tries to buy her freedom, she barely escapes with her life.
