This depends on the manufacturer you buy from. Some brands might provide screws to fit the drive into its slow. Gigabyte usually has the screws already screwed on the motherboard, while others like Dell (such as with the Inspiron 3670) don’t include the screw or even the post into which the screw fits. It only has a hole for the screw needed to install the drive. it did, likely still in your motherboard box. Its usually a very small baggie with a single screw or stand off and screw. This would only not be present if it was a used motherboard or an open box that may not be guaranteed to have everything it would at full retail.

The ideal size for the M2 screw is 2 x3 mm or 2x 8 mm, depending on the motherboard you have, but you can use any regular screw if it has the correct measurements.

Not sure if your board has the standoffs or not. Mine did not, but others I have DID have the standoff and screw included. My old one might have had it in box at one point, and I just didn't need it at the time and lost it.If you can’t find the M2 screw that came with your SSD, you can try one of these three options. Just make sure you don’t force the screw in its place if it doesn’t fit correctly.

Hi, So I recently bought my first SSD. The 970 EVO. However, I have no screw to place it. It's not on the motherboard, it did not came with the SSD and the box of the Mobo is lost... I can't seem to find them anywhere online, except if I pay 15 euro and wait 3 weeks until it comes in. Does anybody know which screws I need exactly? So I could try hitting up some hardware stores to see if they have some? Our Dell Optiplex PCs at work have been using a plastic "clip" to hold the SSDs for some time I think. Looks like this...I'm still pissed that they decided to make all M.2 slots use the notebook sized screw instead of using the standard screw used in the ATX standard. However, there it is. I do not know if it is standardised or if there are different versions of the screws/standoffs. I can send you pictures and measurements of mine but I do not run the exact same mobo. Each M2 is described using two numbers – a digit with the ‘M’ and another number that indicates the shank’s length in mm. So, for instance, if you see a screw with dimensions M2 x8, that means the diameter is 2 mm, and the length of the screw from under its head is 8 mm. To know whether or not you need a stand-off for your M2, it’s better to ask your system or motherboard vendor. The screw’s stand-off height should be compatible with the connector so that it keeps the M2 level.
