About this deal

Tabasco Scorpion is sort of a sauce within a sauce. The ingredients are: Scorpion peppers, distilled vinegar, sugar, guava puree, pineapple, salt, guava powder, pineapple powder, TABASCO® Brand Pepper Sauce (distilled vinegar, red pepper, salt). Looking for a hot sauce with intense heat? This sauce–made from a combination of scorpion peppers blended with guava, pineapple and a dash of TABASCO ® Sauce–is tangy in flavor with untamed heat and a touch of Caribbean sweetness. In addition to the online Country Store, TABASCO ® Scorpion Sauce is now available at select Kroger stores in the United States. Limit one (1) TABASCO® Scorpion Sauce per eligible participant. The Promotion is open only to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and Washington, D.C., who are physically located and residing therein (excluding Guam, Puerto Rico and all other U.S. territories and possessions). Each participant must be at least thirteen (13) years of age at the time of entry. Minors must have consent from their parent or legal guardian to participate. Since Tabasco Original Red Sauce is in the mix, anywhere you’d use the original you could give Tabasco Scorpion a go. Though it’s a little sweeter than a typical Louisiana-style hot sauce, so keep that sweetness in mind. It’s an excellent choice for sweeter dishes where Tabasco Original may have been too vinegar-forward to play. I added it to pineapple sorbet, and it changed the eating experience completely (in a good way.) In short, Tabasco scorpion sauce has a heat level between 23,000-33,000 SHUs on the Scoville scale. This makes the sauce about 8-10x hotter than Tabasco’s Original sauce.

The Hot Sauce Scoville Scale lists numerous hot sauces sorted by their pungency and their amount of capsaicin in Scoville Heat Units (SHU). A hot sauce, also known as chili pepper sauce is a spicy seasoning sauce made from chili peppers and other ingredients such as various fruit and vegetables, vinegar and spices. In addition to changing the degree of spiciness, hot sauce is also used to alter the actual taste of a dish. The production of hot sauces can be done by cooking, fermentation, but also by using only raw ingredients. Types of Hot Sauce This exclusive hot sauce was once reserved for only the McIlhenny family and close friends, but now you can enjoy this flavor any time! TABASCO ® Family Reserve Sauce is made from special, hand-selected peppers and Avery Island salt. The unique pepper mash is aged for up to eight years in white oak barrels–much longer than the three-year aging process for TABASCO ® Original Red Sauce–and blended with white wine vinegar. That’s pretty long compared to the three-ingredient Original Red Sauce. In fact, it’s a lot like how they approached Tabasco Scorpion, with a selection of tropical fruit purées and spices — like a Jamaican-style hot sauce. Those, with that extra pepper mash, changes the mouth feel of Tabasco Habanero Sauce right from the start. That said, Tabasco Habanero Sauce doesn’t reach anywhere near the hab’s potential. It comes in at 7,000 SHU, which nestles it right in between Tabasco Original (2,500 SHU) Tabasco Scorpion (7,000 SHU). And, of course, it’s way hotter than Tabasco Green Pepper Sauce (600 to 1,200 SHU). It’s right in line with the spiciness you experience when eating a fresh jalapeño pepper (2,500 to 8,000 SHU).

However. I think this sauce tastes even hotter than the claimed Scoville rating. The first ingredient is scorpion peppers, which once held the world record for the hottest pepper on Earth. One of the first questions you may have about Tabasco scorpion hot sauce is, “how hot is it?” This being the spiciest sauce they make, how far above the original sauce does it land? TABASCO ® SWEET & Spicy is our mildest hot sauce offering, and it’s great as a dip, a glaze for grilling meats or a base ingredient in a salad dressing. Of course, it’s also fantastic splashed on top of your favorite foods.

From the taste of this sauce, I imagine that the fresh ingredients are all fermented. This isn’t surprising, as Tabasco Original uses a fermented tabasco pepper mash as its base. Habanero peppers sit at the top of the range among true culinary peppers — 100,000 to 350,000 Scoville heat units (SHU). Above that you get into the world of super-hots which are too much heat for most except (except you extreme eaters out there!) Tabasco Brand Pepper Sauce was the very first hot sauce I ever tried. I was in my 10s, and I said a bad word. A dab of Tabasco was my punishment.

For those who like to use about 10 dashes of regular Tabasco on one bite, an equivalency here is like a drop. This builds to a point where you’ll have to stop if you don’t want to be rushing for milk, versus regular Tabasco where you can go all day. Usability So, to bring things full circle, today I’ll share my review of Tabasco Scorpion hot sauce. This is the hottest sauce that Tabasco currently offers, using scorpion peppers as a main ingredient. Let’s get into it! Tabasco was very smart with this coloration as it does provide a warning, too. This is not your everyday Tabasco and don’t mistake it for it. You’ll be more than surprised by the heat here. It’s been called the new “King of Sting”, because it’ll sting ya nice and good if you’re not careful. The Score Each participant (and any minor participant’s parent or legal guardian) agree that each of the Promotion Entities (A) shall not be responsible or liable for, and are hereby released from, any and all costs, injuries, losses or damages of any kind, including, without limitation, death and bodily injury, due in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, to participation in the Promotion or any Promotion-related activity, or from participants’ acceptance, receipt, possession and/or use or misuse of any TABASCO® Scorpion Sauce bottle, and (B) has not made any warranty, representation or guarantee express or implied, in fact or in law, with respect to any TABASCO® Scorpion Sauce bottle. TABASCO ® Roasted Red Pepper Sauce is made with red peppers–slow roasted over open fire–combined with garlic, onions, basil and balsamic vinegar. The result is a rich, smoky hot sauce perfect with grilled meats, seafood, soups and much more. The heat will be too much for some, so it’s not as usable as the original – but it’s still plenty usable. If you’re concerned about salt-intake, careful here. Tabasco Scorpion has 190 mg of sodium, which is about 8% of your daily intake. Regular Tabasco is only 2%, so it’s a big difference. That said, you don’t really notice it tasting too salty over the intense heat here. Collectibility

This is because scorpion peppers are quite fruity on their own. It can be hard to tell when you eat one fresh, because the blinding heat takes over in a matter of seconds. However, these “superhot” chilies are from the same tropical climate as guava and pineapple.

The Peppers

To round out the sauce, Tabasco actually uses their own original sauce as an ingredient. I find this amusing, but it probably helps make Tabasco’s newer sauces hit closer to home. Tabasco Habanero is still a relatively thin sauce, so the stopper helps control how much heat you’re adding. That said, you can get a few good dashes in before you really start sweating things out. Collectibility Capsicum chinense peppers have a very aromatic flavor with a very high to extremely high pungency. They are therefore also suitable for the production of extremely hot chili sauces and extracts. So it is not surprising that the Scoville scale is led by Blair’s 16 million reserve. The 16 million in the name stands for 16 million Scoville Heat Units. It is not a sauce, but Pure Capsaicin crystals. Tabasco has been making hot sauce on Avery Island, Louisiana for over 150 years. The brand was founded by Edmund McIlhenny in 1868. McIlhenny first created Tabasco as a way to add some flavour to the otherwise bland diet of the time, and the original recipe is still followed to this day. If you’re a Tabasco fan, this is no doubt a fun collectible. Tabasco Scorpion was supposed to be a limited edition, but people went crazy for it so now it’s here to stay.
