About this deal

Sometimes model names can be misleading as the badge doesn't correspond to the actual size - the princess is a bit bigger than the others As the F42 is now two years old I wondered if owners could give an unbiased opinion and perhaps Fairline and Princess owners could give us some constructive advice. Apologies to Princess and Fairline owners if our assessments have caused offence!

PRINCESS 42 Li Kit Freedom 500 Series cordless lawn mower, forming part of the Freedom 500 range. With a 42cm cutting width, Powered by STIGA E-Power 48V 4Ah lithium-ion battery powering the large 1300W brushless motor, this mower will make light work of any large lawn up to 400 sq m. Much as all three are lovely boats, the sealine is technically complex and the jury is still out that IPS drives really save fuel, but the servicing is definitely expensive,so factor in any expected fuel saving against service cost and long term reliability. Unless you plan on doing thousands of miles it probably isn't worth it. No doubt the sales man explained how easy it is to park an IPS boat, its not difficult to park a shaft drive boat either - have some lessons and get some practice

New Seafire automatic/manual override fire extinguishers in engine room with warning system at flybridge and lower helm position (2021) The main consensus is that it's all about what you don't see. Apparently the Sealine's hull is not constructed so well and in the build things are just glued instead of screwed and glued. Whilst Simon was clearly impressed by how well he was looked after during the sale, it’s the service he’s received since that has really wowed him. And having bought a boat through the Princess Approved Scheme, he has experienced the perfect example of what has become industry leading customer care. We have recently taken delivery of a new Princess 42 flybridge which I think I`m right in saying is the same (give or take) as a 2005 model.

Etiquette on here means no boat is bad, we all break bread with each other and it wouldn't be fair to cast aspersions on someone's pride and joy but for me the Princess 42 is a great boat and one we enjoyed owning for 5 seasons. The Princess 42 Li offers a wider cutting width for the larger lawn but is still lightweight thanks to it’s durable polypropylene chassis, making it easy to manoeuvre around any medium to large sized garden. A front comb eases grass up to be cut, the 42cm wide blades create a sharp, clean cut and the rear roller produces the perfect striped effect for your lawn. I would have to say that I do recommend this lawn mower to anyone with a larger-sized garden. However, there might be people who benefit from it more than others. For example, if you want something that simply gets things done and doesn’t have a wealth of options, then this might be a little too complex for you. But if you want something that will easily replicate the power and versatility of a petrol mower, then you’ll likely get on with this very well, thanks to the various mowing options. There is also a handy table below that clearly shows the differences between all three Princess models. Full Review HereThe spacious flybridge includes a comfortable entertaining area with ample seating around a table, double helm seat and separate sun-bed aft.

Engine-wise we`ve got the larger 435hp D6 units which are spot on. Superchargers get you onto the plane then turbo chargers start to do their work and the superchargers cut out. It all makes light work of the 12 tonnes or so. Close quarters handling is a breeze with the electronic controls. The auto synchronising of the engines revs took a bit of getting used to but any new boat will have it`s idiosyncrasies. Not really that much to report in terms of annoying bits, we`ve used it a bit with trips to Weymouth, the Isle of Wight & so on (based in Portsmouth) in a variety of conditions. The hull is a bit noisier than the Fairline - possibly a slightly lighter lay up ? but certainly the boat doesn`t feel "cheap" and the interior was vastly better than that of the Fairlines we considered (it was a hard jump to Princess having owned 2 Fairlines). Master cabin forward with a central island double berth, wardrobe, dressing table and storage drawers. Listen to Volvo Paul's wise words on propulsion. Shafts are in my humble opinion the only option. There is nothing to go wrong, you won't have seal problems, props disintegrating, water ingress causing expensive damage and so on. Controlling a boat on shafts is very intuitive. If you thrown in bow and stern thrusters then you just have to think about where you want the boat and it goes there! On the machinery side which is my living I'd get quotes on running costs, an I p s boat servicing charges will make your eyes water, straight conventional shafts make more sense if you don't want to be paying silly money every year to me or the dealers.
