About this deal

There’s no doubt that the P9 Signatures are a very talented pair of headphones. No matter what you feed them, they find themselves right at home, delivering a sound that’s not just accurate, but that’s enjoyable too. There’s a shared sonic DNA between the PX7s and their predecessors, with a solid, detailed and tonally balanced sound that prioritises rhythmic precision and communicates music in an entertaining way. But B&W’s engineers clearly haven’t been resting on their laurels in the past two years, as they strive to meet the standards set by the arrival of fresh competition in the market. The headband is lovely and cushioned, as are those slightly smaller earcups (Image credit: Future) Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2: design and features Another tweak in the Px8s is that the Carbon Cone drive units are carefully angled inside each earcup to ensure the entire driver’s surface is at a consistent distance from the listener’s ear, to keep the soundstage accurate.

First things first: these cans look and feel utterly glorious. The classy tan colorway is a new venture for B&W and one we like very much indeed. There’s never any harshness or hardness that you might hear on lesser headphones, and everything sounds as it should, as if it were being played right in front of you. Not always easy with sounds like this. The PX7s are clear evolutions of their predecessors, with a branded badge and fabric finish on the elliptical earcups. There have also been some revisions to the design in the name of improved comfort.

Px8 McLaren Edition wireless headphones

These are headphones you'll want to be seen in. Their ideal environment might be a business-class flight to Milan or the Maldives. The build here is all die-cast aluminum arms, diamond-cut bright metal detailing and Nappa leather trim. Think all that metal means they'll be heavy? Actually no –the weight is perfect for us. While they feel secure, there's no overly strong clamping force either. The PX8's two strongest suits are glorious looks and exemplary sound quality. If these two features are of paramount importance to you, the PX8 represent some of the best noise cancelling headphones you can buy –but you do have to pay top dollar for the privilege of ownership. Are they set to waltz into our best over-ear headphones buying guide? Screaming "yes!" is perhaps a little premature. But we think it's highly likely, despite the higher asking fee. The metallic physical buttons on the right ear cup are cool to the touch and they work beautifully. (Image credit: Future) Bowers & Wilkins PX8 review: sound quality

The B&Ws follow the melancholic melody of Linkin Park’s Leave Out All The Rest with expert precision. The shift from fragile and emotional verse to explosive chorus is delivered with both finesse and purpose. A nice touch here is the ability to set the streaming quality (using your mobile data or Wi-Fi) and also the wearer sensor, the latter at low, normal, or high. If the PX8 fail to pause when you lift an ear cup to talk to a colleague, switch it to high. Find them pausing unexpectedly during use? Switch it to low. This B&W PX7 is stunning, I'm so glad that I made the right choice, was conpare Sony WH1000xm3& Bose 700, the PX7 wins my ear! someone may notice the build quality like Sony is very plastic look, and I went to Cost co to test out the WH-1000xm3 ,it acutraly broken .....must be many ppl touch it,. same as the Bose QC35, plastic feel. In terms of wireless resolution, Qualcomm’s aptX Adaptive tech is supported, coupled with Bowers & Wilkins' newly-developed DSP to automatically optimize your wireless music transmission from compatible phones, tablets and computers. Up top, the treble doesn't flake out on proceedings. It remains tight and controlled, offering bite and snap to the claps and cymbals in Pharell's Happy, and lets the violins in Alma's Starlight loose, without any hint of hesitation or harshness. The Px8s don't offer a vague idea of the upper register or err on the side of caution - it is as solid and insightful as the rest of the frequency range.READ NEXT: Our favourite over-ear headphones Bowers & Wilkins Pi7 S2 review: What could be improved? For the first time in a pair of B&W headphones, the PX7 S2 features support for the Bowers & Wilkins Music app. This not only supplies useful information about your headphones and offers scope for tweaking the EQ (bass and treble bands), but also seeks to corral the music you regularly listen to. It's well-designed and easy to use, plus you can actually set the wearer sensor to either 'low', 'normal' or 'high' depending upon how well the headphones seem to respond to the presence of your noggin. It all adds value, and even during long listening sessions, the extra cushioning on the ear pads here feels high-end and proves supremely comfortable. READ NEXT: The best Bluetooth headphones to buy this year Bowers & Wilkins Pi7 S2 review: What did we like about them? As with Px7 S2, the performance of the system has been improved from B&W's original Px7 by moving the two external microphones closer together, adjusting the angling of each microphone to improve voice capture and changing the position of the second mic to reduce wind noise interference. Generally, the Px7 S2 put in a strong noise-cancelling performance, with consistency and minimal sound colouration across the different settings. Low droning noises, such as those you hear when onboard a train, are well rejected, though we find that higher frequencies – including vacuum cleaners or even birdsong – creep through to a greater extent than they do through the WH-1000XM5.
