If you're looking for a tanky figure, high health/low defense figures are generally better than the low health/high defense figures in the early going (especially in the Beerus fight that we're looking at today) - almost no figure (until the Beerus fight) is doing more than 4000 damage in one hit. Your high HP figures should be able to absorb at least two hits from most figures - the low HP/High DEF ones will probably only survive one. When deciding on what skills to equip, if you're going for skills that increase your figures stats, accentuate their strengths, don't try to cover weaknesses. If a figure has low Def, giving them a DEF Up T1 is not going to make much of a difference. Instead, buff their ATK or SPD, or put a lowering skill on them. The only exception to this rule is in regards to SPD, if you have a slow figure, give them a SPD boosting skill, but only if the boost is 500+. Now to make this as close to a newer player's experience as possible, I went through the story as a new CaC - so while I did have access to all of my figures and skills that I already had, I knew which skills would be available in the shop to a player at this point in the game. Also, my master level would be around the same as someone playing through the story for the first time too. I also limited myself to only using two UR figures, and no figures above LV 35. My master LV was 11. His figures come equipped with Column boosting skills, which means 90% of the time he'll leave a column open. After his Whis figure is down, take advantage of this by having one figure in each row. You should be able to win in 2 turns this way. This is your first true challenge in the game, a double header against a God of Destruction and his Attendant! Now, Whis isn't difficult, it's mainly Beerus people struggle with, but I'll cover both fights.

Don't be afraid to take a direct hit in the early goings of the match, especially if you're faster. One thing most people don't know is that if you do end up going second, your Ult gauge will fill up faster than if you went first. Keep this in mind for the future.
