About this deal

Set in a leafy suburb in Dublin, Lily Murphy disappears in 1985 while playing the age-old favourite children’s game of hide and seek. Many years later, a new family has moved the house once occupied by the Murphy family. When Joanna realises that Lily once lived there, she is immediately overcome with an awful sense of dread that she just can’t shift. She thinks she knows that happened to the little girl and if the truth comes out, her world will also be turned upside down. Also, in the author's note she mentions something about this being a treatise about race/class/whatever. Nah, it doesn't even come close to going there.

the emotionally resonant ending is beautifully done. i love that justin uses his puzzle piece to self-soothe throughout the book, but he has to give it up to save his friends. his friends ultimately provide more comfort than this symbol of his mom. and letting go of his mom is painful, but he knows it's what he has to do. I added this book to my NetGalley TBR a while ago. I have read another book by the author and enjoyed that, and this one did not disappoint. When Joanna discovers that their new house was home to a little girl who went missing thirty-three years ago, she is obsessed with finding out what happened to little Lily. Hide and Seeker by Daka Hermon absolutely blew me away. Not only is it a scary middle grade novel - this is a straight up MG horror - it has a lot of heart. Friendship, family, terror. You guys have seen me praise a lot of middle grade horror lately, and this is one I highly, highly recommend. Put it in your classrooms, put it in your libraries, buy it for your kids, buy it for yourself. I was an absolute mess reading this book. Books like Hide and Seeker are exactly why I read - and will continue to read - middle grade. I haven't found an adult book with this kind of heart in a long time. Shortly after Joanna, her husband and three children move into a new house in a mature, middle class estate in Dublin, Joanna discovers that the house was the former home of Lily Murphy. Lily disappeared when she was three years old during a neighbourhood game of Hide and Seek and was never found.

When I started this book the last thing I though would happen was that I would give it 4 stars but believe me it’s worth every one of them. The only problem now is I’ll have to wait for Mara’s next release but the good news is she’s signed a deal with Transworld for two more books!

This is a gorgeous bedtime read-aloud about joy and family love and community, and most of all about feeling… let us leave unexamined what it says about me that i use competitive murder books as escapist entertainment. suffice it to say, i ride the subway into the city every day, which gives me a front-row seat to the decline of civilization along with some simmering fantasies about thinning out the human herd. This beloved, beautiful story about friendship and the power of imagination is now available as a gorgeously illustrated children’s picture book.Taken into a shelter they are given the rules, from dawn until dusk the game is on, hide or be eliminated if found. They are told that two of them will be eliminated each day and after that return to the base until the next day when the hunt begins again. To win simply survive the seven days without being found. My normal experience with most JP books I have read in the past is that it doesn’t take long before credulity it thrown out and sentimentality takes over but not so here. I was expecting a straightforward mystery/adventure/thriller. What I got was half thriller, half paranormal supernatural gobbledygook. stars. This was awesome! I loved every moment of this. It gave me the vibes of a Goosebumps book and I liked the way the author handled the tougher subjects mixed with the horror. The writing is really good and I grew attached to the characters.

Maggie Bradford is a famous singer and songwriter. Many of her songs are based on the pain and heartbreak she feels because she killed her abusive husband before he killed her and their daughter Jennie. Years later, Maggie falls for famous soccer player Will Fletcher. As readers, we know Will is a psychopath who has killed before. Maggie shoots him outside her home after finding him with Jennie. I have read every single one of her books and have never been left disappointed... and dare I say it, but I think this latest one could be her best yet!!!! A children’s game of hide and seek ends but little Lily Murphy hasn't been found. Her parents and neighbours search the woods and tell themselves that the worst hasn't happened. But Lily’s whereabouts remain a mystery.A pleasingly honest downbeat denouement is mitigated by a romantic upturn in the inspector's private life." - The Times One of our most iconic childhood games receives a creepy twist as it becomes the gateway to a nightmare world. This book I can see being good for some people, however this is one book that I can actually say I feel as though I wasted my time reading it.
