About this deal

They are so much more than their first takes and as they find a way to work together, all these unexpected qualities shine through.

Yes, I saw the end coming (I'm in the mid-30s, I am not the target audience), but I would have hoovered this up if I was younger and was more into creepy/spooky reads. The groundskeepers apparently have their pet spiders well trained and when they’re whistling a jaunty tune the spiders don’t attack, and that works just fine for the two or three hours on a Saturday the book takes place in.I don’t want to go into too much detail about the characters in this part as I usually would, because I found that going in blind and just learning about them and what linked them made the plot and the book very engaging. I like how this book dealt with poverty, disability (one of which I have never read about in a book before), bullying (whether you mean it or not) and the pressures parents put on you. As we get to know these characters we are reminded there is always a reason behind brash behaviour, or those who prefer to be invisible.

Not only did the group of children in this story get detention, but they got a Saturday morning detention, which turns out to be a day from hell. I wasn't so sure about the audio book narrator at first, but after two chapters, he had won me over, and I really enjoyed listening to him. But as I said, I love the characters and their dynamic and I think I went into this book expecting too much. She regularly visits schools and festivals, and her books have three times been selected for The Reading Agency’s Summer Reading Challenge.I picked it up as a quick read to break up my other reads because I had several very heavy and complicated epic fantasies on the go, and ended up reading the whole thing in one sitting. Trading Address (Warehouse) Unit E, Vulcan Business Complex, Vulcan Road, Leicester, Leicestershire, LE5 3EB. I think this would creep out anyone, especially kids, but I don’t think it would scare them unless they are sensitive to one of the TWs mentioned above. I thought this addictive thriller is worthy of far more than five stars,is one of my favourite reads of the year so far and is very very highly recommended by little old me. For me, Jennifer Killick is the best there is at writing genuinely tense and scary horror, but with the knowledge that things are never going to go too far (though there were some points in this book where I was crossing my fingers and hoping the thing I was worried might happen, wouldn't actually happen!

A spooky atmosphere to go with a great new voice in MG horror: And the final point I want to touch on in this review is one of my all-time favourites = ATMOSPHERE! What a brilliant start to what looks like is going to be a incredible series and I can't wait to find out what trouble the friends are going get themselves into in their next adventure The Fear Ground. Overall, this is a fast-paced book that I loved so much and can't wait for the next book in this series. Dread Wood is what happens when a middle-grade version of The Breakfast Club meets a Goosebumps book. Unbeknownst to Angelo,he was a natural problem solver and leader, my favourite character Hallie was a feisty, take no shiz tomboy, Gustav (Gus) was the comedian of the group and Niara wasn't the uptight, preppy individual that she came across as at the beginning of the story.I feel that in a Middle Grade Horror you need a few moments of joy to take a break from the sinister story you are reading, and in Dread Wood this was done extremely well.
