About this deal

Postoji onaj Gaimanovski "twist" koji mi svi jako volimo i odličan je crossover Uspavane lepotice i Snežane.

A queen with raven-black hair abandons her wedding day in favour of going on a quest accompanied by three dwarfs. Then she decides she wants to have adventures instead of marriage and tromps off into the sunset and away from her kingdom. It seems every time I delve into the world of a retelling I begin by pointing out how much I didn’t care for the original. Međutim, glavni i jedini problem ove knjižice je u tome što se Gaimanov tekst jednostavno gubi i postaje minoran u odnosu na Riddellove grafike (a malo je reći da su grafike fenomenalne). This was an interesting take on the classic story of Sleeping Beauty, with a few new characters that you may recognise.

In a chamber at the heart of the castle’s tallest tower, the queen finds a beautiful young woman fast asleep. Up the blooming stairs and past the blooming cook and what are you cooking now, eh, great land-arse, nothing in your pots and pans but dust and more dust, and all you ever do is snore.

When her loyal dwarf companions bring word that a princess, who at some point had pricked her finger and fallen victim to evil magic, is at the heart of the sleeping enchantment, the queen decides to take action.

Neil Gaiman is the bestselling author of Coraline and Stardust, both of which are major motion films. We build and maintain all our own systems, but we don’t charge for access, sell user information, or run ads. It’s beautifully illustrated in black and white by Chris Riddell, which magnificently complements the story.

The added humour made it so much fun and my favourite character of all was first dwarf Ralph Ineson, his rumbling Leeds/Yorkshire accent made great listening, he was cast perfectly and Neil Gaiman been added in himself as Home Secretary was a bonus touch. The BBC does an excellent job of choosing voice actors (Gwendolyn Christie is particularly perfect for the role of the warrior queen), mixing the audio, and setting the scene with careful use of a backing track and score, but I just couldn’t get into the story and found myself not paying attention to it.And to everyone who claimed I’d imagined it being marketed as a LGBT retelling: here’s a link to the new edition published this year by Scholastic UK, WITH THE SNOW WHITE/SLEEPING BEAUTY KISS ON THE COVER. But then I always knew they would be since reading The Edge Chronicles, he is an amazing illustrator. Spurred by memories of what it was like when she herself was under a magical sleep spell for more than a year, the queen, donning her armor and sword, rides off with three of the dwarfs. I won't review the book as I have done already (paperback) but this radio production was wonderful and of great quality. This had me engaged, but in the end, felt too short and simple with more room to grow, which left me craving more.
