Key features

Vegan potting compost: with slow-release nutrients, this organic vegan compost can be used for potting plants and is well-suited to heavy production and vigorously growing crops If you're looking for a peat-free organic compost that will give your seeds and plants the nutrients they need to thrive, you’re in the right place.

Matthew Dent bought the business in August 2004 and moved production to Withington Court. Matthew was no stranger to the farm as he had been renting Robert’s hop yards for the previous ten years and had seen Fertile Fibre grow from the start. Robert was more than happy to pass the company on to a friend. Robert has stayed on at Fertile Fibre helping with enquiries and spearheading product trialling, which is still done in conjunction with the Cottage Herbery. Since 2004 production capacity has steadily increased over the years to meet demand. The compost ranges have been expanded to include vegan and biodynamic composts which have proved just as popular as the traditional, well tried and tested Fertile Fibre mixes. We continue to work closely with the Soil, Vegan and Biodynamic associations to meet the increasingly strong emphasis on quality and traceability and continue to source and manufacture exciting new products to meet the needs of our customers. We remain proud of the fantastic peat-free, organic composts we make and look forward to a future when everyone grows wonderful flowers, fruits and vegetables in 100% peat-free compost.Read on to discover more about our diverse range of coco coir fibre products and the benefits this organic material delivers time and time again. Bark mulch : consisting of chunky bark peelings from locally managed woodlands, you can buy this bark mulch in 35-litre, 60-litre, 1,000-litre and 2,000-litre bags - making it perfect for covering large areas. Beyond helping to control weeds, moisture retention and soil stability, this bark mulch also lends a tidy, decorative finish to beds and pathways Sustainability: as by-products from coconuts, which are a renewable source, coir is a highly sustainable gardening material - giving your garden added eco-friendliness

For potting we have also used all three with the same results, though last year FF did ok but is a very light medium for root support once planted and i found it tends to dry out once in the ground as it doesn’t absorb moisture from the soil very well. When it comes to gardening, premium garden bark chippings have a multitude of uses and are a core component in all of our peat-free organic composts. Coir fibre mats or the bales can be cut to size and used to line planters such as hanging baskets and window boxes. Allowing water to slowly pass through without taking soil particles with it, these can help to regulate soil moisture. Why use coir fibre mats from FertileFibre? Stabilising soil: bark chippings can improve the structure of your soil, giving it a healthy balance of organic matter, as well as helping to provide more air-filled porosity for effective drainagePotting bark : designed for use in potting plants, these wood bark chippings come from matured European pine trees. Sold in 10-litre or 60-litre bags, you can buy in bulk and add to peat and peat-free composts to improve soil structure and porosity. This bark can also be applied as a top mulching layer Versatile: our garden fertilisers can be added to compost, coir or directly into soil in low or high concentrations, giving you the freedom to adapt your usage to suit your needs Thirdly, as some of you have already stated, the pH of the compost is very acidic, this is again will present a breeding ground for pathogenic bacteria etc to exist and cause crops to fail; the ideal pH is 6.5. We’re committed to bringing you the best quality peat-free organic compost in the UK at affordable prices. So, when you buy organic compost from FertileFibre, you can enjoy the best of both worlds. Stable growth: as a growing medium, the balance of nutrients and organic matter in our multipurpose compost promotes healthy seed germination for strong long-term growth
