About this deal

SO EASY AND CONVENIENT – No more fiddling with loose compost and many pots! Each 36mm round pellet contains enough growing medium to get your plants started. Just place the amount of pellets you need in a waterproof container, add warm water and leave it until liquid is absorbed and the pellets have swelled and are damp. You are then ready to fill your pellets with seeds and cuttings.

Because coconut coir is an inert growing media, you will need to supplement your plants with additional nutrition. Remember — this is still hydroponic growing if you are only using coconut coir. May need additional supplementation: You may find your plants short on calcium and magnesium when using coconut coir, so supplementing with “Cal-Mag” may be necessary. Other fertilizers will be necessary as well since coir has low NPK levels.

Coir pellets are incredibly space saving. You don’t have to store several different products in your garage to do the same job as this product. We are an authorised dealer for Jiffy Products. Always be aware of cheap imitations, as the results you will get from them when growing and propagating will not be the same as the genuine article. Please Note Inert: Coconut coir is inert, meaning it has no nutrients. It may look like soil, but it is not soil. This means you must add hydroponic nutrients and control the pH when using coco coir. Growing in soil isn’t too different, though, as many gardeners amend their soil constantly throughout the growing season anyways. We are an authorised dealer for Jiffy Products. Please be aware of cheap imitations, as the results you will get from them when growing and propagating will not be the same as the genuine article. Please Note: After correcting the coir with some additives, the plants went from strength to strength and have significantly outgrown the petunias I grew in regular compost.

If that sounds like a lot to look out for…IT IS! Fortunately, you don’t have to do any of that. All you have to do is make sure that it was done, either by asking your local garden shop about the supplier’s practices or by reading below, where I’ve answered most of these questions for each type of coconut coir product I review. Another added bonus to the coir pellets is that they allow for proper air circulation, even if there is too much water. Proper aeration is incredibly important for plants, since it allows for optimal growing conditions. It helps to prevent root rot and compacted soil, and the roots have an easier time in the uptake of water.
