About this deal

Nemesis will protect Tyrus at any cost. He is the love of her life, and they are partners in this new beginning. But she cannot protect him by being the killing machine she once was. She will have to prove the humanity that she’s found inside herself to the whole Empire—or she and Tyrus may lose more than just the throne. But if proving her humanity means that she and Tyrus must do inhuman things, is the fight worth the cost of winning it? In my opinion, she acted various times like a spoiled child and not like a young woman that would be a proud empress. Her rebellious facade is understandable but everything has limits, in my opinion. Spanning 13 years over the ‘Golden Era’ of Empire, this story blends the experiences of Indian ayahs and lascars who worked on the ships carrying trade goods, the first Indian politician to be elected as a Member of Parliament, and the true story of Queen Victoria’s relationship with her servant and ‘Munshi’ (teacher) Abdul Karim. What happens when you family tries to arrange a match? The younger free spirited younger sister is so much more appealing.

It is definitely worth taking a voyage to see this sensational production of The Empress and its spectacular cast– West End Best Friend

Of course he did. Tyrus had been careful with every move of his reign so far, since he was the sort to think ten steps ahead before making a single one. I’d been eased slowly into public life over the last weeks. Astra moved between the converts to aid them in shedding their clothing. Then she led each of the converts by the hands to the window to position them in the glare of the sacred hypergiant. The naked men and women pressed up against the window, spreading their arms, their fingers, soaking light into every square centimeter of their skin. This book gives more of an overview of the universe they preside over and more of the politics. There is much death, destruction and cruelty. At times it feels like all hope is lost and then there are the twists and turns. No-one can be trusted! Nemesis’ character continues to evolve and her love for Tyrus never waivers. If you give the people knowledge they will want more and then use that knowledge against you.” - Pasus

I always had a thing for the traditional “Sisi” movies. I grew up watching them and still like them, even if they are all fluff and pretty unrealistic. Seeing the new series, was a different experience. Rough around the edges, cold and more real. No fluff. Thank you NetGalley, Swift Press and Gigi Griffis for letting me read “The Empress” in exchange for an honest review.

The thrilling sequel to S.J. Kincaid’s New York Times bestselling novel, The Diabolic that TeenVogue.com called “the perfect kind of high-pressure adventure.” I am deaaaaaaaaaaddddddddd from that ending. I just. I can't. It is too much. My POOR FEEBLE HUMAN BRAIN CAN'T TAKE IT omg what even A fresh, fast-paced take on a legendary woman and one of Europe’s most notorious royal love stories—guaranteed to win Sisi new fans.” - Evie Dunmore, USA Today bestselling author of Bringing Down the Duke You have to go into this knowing it will not be all unicorns and rainbows. It will rip your heart out and then proceed to stomp on it. Things will not work out the way you want them to. That being said, I really enjoyed it. In a way Im glad things didnt turn out perfect because that would probably be a very boring story. I also thought the history about Earth was a great addition to the story. The Empress by S.J. Kincaid is the second book in the young adult science fiction/fantasy series, The Diabolic. The first book in the series introduced readers to Nemesis who is a Diabolic. Diabolics are engineered to be human like but extremely strong and powerful and meant to bond to one person and protect them at all costs. Nemesis had been bonded to a young girl, Sidonia, who had been summoned to appear before the emperor. It was thought that Sidonia might be walking into a trap so Nemesis had taken her place to protect her. During that time Nemesis bonded with Tyrus who was in line to take the throne.

Tyrus strives for a voluntary union throughout the Empire which has been ruled by fear for generations. Alectar van Pasus, his biggest objector, believes that Tyrus is being idealistic.

While I do not think you always have to have a fan service in your books, MAN was this so unsatisfying. On top of all the good characters being ANNOYING and AWFUL now, the main baddy doesn't get a satisfying consequence for the reader and almost everything you thought you were looking forward to in the book did not happen. Like THROW US A BONE HERE!!! I really loved Nemesis and Tyrus’ relationship in the beginning of the story. It felt much like the partnership we see in book 1. They protect each other and support each other, and I loved it. But their relationship really gets the shaft because of the political drama that comes into play, especially with Senator Pasus and his agenda. I just didn’t connect to this story nearly as much as the previous one. The time jumps and character’s actions really hindered my ability to connect and enjoy the story. They will turn those weapons upon us because they hate us, and they always have. Their descendants will hate our descendants, as their ancestors hated our ancestors.” - Pasus
