About this deal

In 2005, Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing published her debut book of poems, written between the ages of 11 and 21, entitled Free Stallion. The School Library Journal 's review states that, " Free Stallion is a compilation of poetry that amounts to a portrait of the artist as a teenager... Many of the selections are appropriately self-absorbed but move beyond journalistic catharsis to real insight and stunning language for one so young." [22] Poet Laureate Lawrence Ferlinghetti called the book, "A fine, fruitful gestation of throbbingly nascent sexuality, awakened in young new language." [23] In 2008, she was featured in the Write Bloody Publishing anthology, The Last American Valentine: Illustrated Poems to Seduce and Destroy. [24] If you do choose to read this book, I cannot recommend the audiobook highly enough. This is arguably the most well produce audiobook I've ever listened to. It's immersive, which you could argue is what makes the reading experience even more visceral; and that is, again, quite disturbing. In 2007, she co-founded Write Now Poetry Society, dedicated to creating unique and quality poetry programming. The non-profit has a long history with The Getty Museum, curating poetry events in conjunction with art openings, such as 2011's Dark Blushing, featuring new poems commissioned by poets Patricia Smith and NEA fellow Jeffrey McDaniel, based on works of art by Dante Gabriel Rossetti and William Blake. [31] Since 2011, Tamblyn has reviewed books of poetry by women for iconic feminist magazine, BUST Magazine. [32] James Woods allegation and Hasidic incident [ edit ]

I felt that Tamblyn tried too hard to be relevant and current. You can tell by her writing style that she is a poet, and I just don’t think it worked for this novel. Each victim was intended to hair his own voice and narrative, but all the voices and stories blended together. Tamblyn appeared in a poetry concert film recorded on August 4, 2002, in Los Angeles, The Drums Inside Your Chest. [29] A new collection of poetry, Bang Ditto, was published in September 2009 by San Francisco's Manic D Press. Beginning in October 2009, she began blogging for the Poetry Foundation's blog, Harriet. [30] Her poem "Bridgette Anderson" was one of the poems featured in Saul Williams' book Chorus, published by MTV Books in September 2011. I know for a fact I won't stop thinking about this book for a long time. It does what good fiction is meant to do: challenges me to re-consider my views, my responses, my gut reactions through creative, fresh prose and storytelling. As bold as it is timely, Any Man paints a searing portrait of survival and is a tribute to those who have lived through the nightmare of sexual assault. While this book does come with a pretty big trigger warning - Maude's crimes are abhorrent and rival those of Josef Fritzl in sheer sociopathy - Tamblyn thankfully avoids describing the assaults in great detail. She takes great care to remain respectful of the victims - who are fictional, yes, but represent the millions of women and men who will experience rape in their lifetime. The story is told through an odd mix of narrative, stream-of-consciousness, poetry, personal diaries, talk show transcripts, podcasts, tweets, and even a last will and testament. Sometimes these various pieces of media have a special significance to a specific survivor, providing depth, nuance, and a sense of uniqueness to his voice and perspective. The result is weird, at first, but ultimately quite powerful and compelling. Zasky, Jason. "A Plea to the Television Gods". Failuremag.com. Archived from the original on May 17, 2013 . The Drums Inside Your Chest Movie Trailer w/Amber Tamblyn". Archived from the original on April 16, 2016 – via YouTube. This is the story of five men, all of whom have been the victim of an anonymous serial rapist known as Maude. It is the story of how the media handles rape, and how society handles rape. How we speak about it, how we shame, how we lay blame. It’s about the questions we ask, how we ask them and the assumptions we make. How we try to make ourselves feel more comfortable in the presence of someone else’s trauma. How the survivors grapple with their new reality, and their upended perception of themselves, their relationships, their bodies and the world around them. Yandoli, Krystie Lee (March 5, 2019). Any Man - Amber Tamblyn

A web designer begins an online flirtation with a mysterious person who later stalks and rapes the designer.I think pregnancy weaponizes you and turns your mind the most feral it will ever be,” she says. This art studio we’re sitting in is something of a mother’s shrine to a daughter, fitting scenery for Tamblyn to express the immense physical and emotional shifts that happen to new parents. An explosive, shapeshifting piece of literary real estate, Amber Tamblyn’s arresting debut offers a scathing portrait of American celebrity culture and the way in which it transmutes human tragedy into a vicious circus; victims are forgotten as likes and shares swirl, and ‘news’ becomes a squalid orgy, a lurid feast. Tamblyn takes every risk in this astonishing and innovative work, and succeeds, gloriously.”
