About this deal

I wouldn't recommend this book to a single female (or male) I've ever met. In fact, I'd be terrified of my (non-existant) daughter/neice/any young girl stumbling upon this book and taking any of its advice. Cutting down women for being "fat pigs" doesn't make the authors look cute or funny and certainly doesn't make them edgy, it just ends up being another demeaning and damaging thing that women have to deal with. The subtitle says that this is a "tough-love" book, but these women are just plain mean. They talk directly to the reader, calling her a "lazy shit" and a "fat pig". I know some people need a major wake-up call about their eating habits, but this went too far to the point of alienating me at times.

Did you know European countries won't accept our meat because of the crap we "allow" to go into it? We don't feed our cows ground up cows anymore, but it is okay to feed our calves the blood of dead cows, per the USDA. How messed up is that?Government: I'm not going to go into all their anti-government and Bush administration propaganda. They go over the history of the FDA, EPA, and USDA (most notably fabricated studies to get MSG approved and they rip on the school lunch program). But what I will comment on, is that they recommend looking for organic seals other than the USDA's (because the government is out to protect the agriculture and farming industry not health). You go organic to avoid pesticides, hormones, chemically altered food, etc. (they also promote natural beauty products). Their point is, don't rely on the government to make you healthy. Hole. I poses 'an approximate knowledge of many things'. However, sometimes I go a bit nutty and start digging. While most people would benefit from eating a more plant-based diet, cutting out all animal products isn’t necessary. Learn that it’s okay if someone else is better at something than you are. It’s okay to be flawed and imperfect; in fact, everyone is, even those you are threatened by. They too have their own insecurities, so don’t let yours get the best of you.

Then I saw an article in the PCRM (Physician's Commmittee for Responsible Medicine) magazine, saying that one of the Skinny Bitches was giving talks to White House staffers in Washington, and it really put a favorable spin on the book.

Exercise Recommendations

It's unknown when and who first used the term Skinny Bitch (not Skinny Beach, by the way) for a Vodka Soda. However, it is evident that the name refers to the low amount of calories (about 100cal/serving) and the absence of sugar (0g/serving). aside from the bad language, this was A GREAT BOOK! I read the whole thing in about 2 hours. I recommend this to anyone trying to get healthier - whether they are looking to be skinny or not!

Let me tell you, your body does NOT readily turn sugar into fat. The process is not efficient. The loss of energy is about 40% if I remember correctly. And that's a last resort, because first it's simply stored as glycogen in liver and muscles (yes, you can carry a few pounds of sugar on you before your body starts to turn excess into fat) user-uploaded templates using the search input, or hit "Upload new template" to upload your own template Someone wrote this and got paid for it. Repeat 800 times, then please, pull your own writing out of the trash and keep trying.

The rest of shit she had to say about sugar was also inaccurate (not completely wrong, unfortunately. If you know little about nutrition you may even believe it. Do NOT!) Unfortunately, I was really disappointed by the whole thing. Basically the premise is that the authors, Rory & Kim, think the best way to lose weight is to eat healthily. Their definition of healthy is vegan. That is the agenda they push all the way through the book. I wish I had known this before I put it on my wishlist! The first part of the book seems to be written with the intention of shaming or scaring you into being healthy (aka vegan). Here are some choice phrases: You need to exercise, you lazy shit… You are a total moron… You are a gluttonous pig… Don’t be a pussy… Don’t be a fat pig anymore. You get the picture. It was quite off-putting, as you can imagine. I am not keen on being insulted by something that I bought (or someone else spent their hard-earned money on for me). I am not one of those people who needs a personal trainer who tells me how worthless I am. I felt that their tone was pretty unnecessary. Besides which, I have learned that people respond about a million times better to encouragement & positivity than insults & nastiness. Who needs that, seriously?

However, even that is spoiled with inappropriate remarks. You just can't go from describing inhumanities of a slaughterhouse, diseased animals, cannibalism, mutilation, torture, puss, hormones and pesticides to something as shallow as 'your skinny ass'. There's time and place for everything. And this bitch misses the mark so hard she could be a stormtrooper. The title!! The authors admit that they chose the title to market the book, but feeding into sexism by using the word "bitch", emphasizing skinniness over health, and putting women's appearances in the forefront is tiresome. I think if they had worked a little harder, they could have come up with a better marketing plan. Instead, they chose the lazy and non-thinking path which is detrimental for women. Two official music videos for "Skinny Little Bitch" have been released on Hole's official YouTube channel—a multi-camera version of the band's performance at SXSW in March 2010 and a shortened video of Love performing the song while getting a tattoo. Other plans for a music video, including an animation by Michael Mouris and a video featuring model Sasha Pivovarova, were considered but never received a greenlight from Mercury Records. Speaking of meat, there's no talk of fish. Are fish caught in inhumane nets? Maybe in the next book. The authors' mention the widespread corruption in our school lunch programs. Non-profit organizations, parents, and other groups have been trying to get healthier school meals inside our schools, but the USDA is heavily "supported" by the meat and dairy industries, so those attempts have been thwarted from all angles. Read a story about where currently popular standards for protein consumption came. You'll be amazed by the power of bullshit.
