About this deal

Soya formula is made from soya beans, not cows' milk. It's occasionally used as an alternative to cows' milk formula for babies who have cows' milk allergy. Formula milk provides babies with the nutrients they need to grow and develop. However, it does not have the same health benefits as breastfeeding for you and your baby. For example, it cannot protect your baby from infections. First infant formula (first milk) The majority of products advise on three scoops per feed. However, HiPP Organic and Aldi advise on two scoops. This will be the result of a more concentrated powder. Clean bottles and teats thoroughly: You should wash bottles, teats and other feeding equipment in hot, soapy water. Then rinse them with running water, after which they are ready to be sterilised. Aptamil Anti-Reflux, Cow & Gate Anti-Reflux and SMA Anti-Reflux are all marketed as helping reflux, posseting and regurgitation.

Source of Calcium, vitamin D and protein. Calcium, vitamin D and protein are needed for normal growth and development of bone in children. Although it's often described as suitable for "hungrier babies", there's no evidence that babies settle better or sleep longer when fed this type of formula. Anti-reflux (staydown) formula No. The effectiveness of comfort milks over infant milks in reducing the symptoms of colic is not established. Instead of switching formula, small changes to the timing and quantity of feeds can help to manage colic. Not all milk is suitable for feeding babies. You should never give the following types of milk to a baby under 1 year: Toddlers from the age of 1 year need about 300-360ml of HiPP growing up milk per day, either as a drink, on cereals or added to their foods. This is only a guide and your toddler may need more or less than this. If you require more advice, please consult your health professional. The oat drink tastes nutty and is thinner in consistency to cow’s milk. We tried it in their cereal which they both seemed to enjoy but, when I offered it to my youngest, he didn’t drink much. We persevered and, after the second day, he drank it all. We tried the soya drink on cereal and in porridge which went down well, but DS seemed to prefer the soya to oat. Taste-wise, it’s much closer to cow's milk and sweeter than the oat. Do not make feeds weaker or stronger than indicated by adding extra water/scoops, and do not add anything else to milk feeds. Scoops of powder added to 180 ml (6 fl. oz. approx.) water makes 200 ml (7 fl. oz. approx.) milk drink. All toddlers have different nutritional needs, but after 12 months we recommend your child has around 400 ml of milk per day. You can feed your child up to 2 servings per day depending on their individual nutritional needs. Mix 1 scoop of powder to 30 ml (approx. 1 fl. oz.) of water.

The Alpro Soya Growing Up Drink has been my go-to for a number of years. Having two young children who are intolerant to dairy with different symptoms, I was over the moon to find a product that they loved the taste of and that I trusted.

Comfort formula is made from partly broken down (partially hydrolysed) proteins. It's not suitable for babies with cows' milk allergy. Follow-on formula

Vitamin D is harder to get from diet though and the government recommends that babies and children aged six month to five years are given supplements containing vitamin A, C and D every day.' Although most follow-on formulas, apart from HiPP Organic, provide a similar amount of calcium to cow's milk per 100ml, they are all higher in sugar and more expensive. Higher levels of sugar can encourage a preference for sweet foods and in the long-term can lead to dental cavities. Under the regulations, infant formula is also not allowed to be advertised to the public or be offered at a discounted rate. This is so that it doesn’t undermine breastfeeding. We tried both Alpro Growing Up Drinks as a standalone drink and in cereal. They taste sweeter than our usual brand of oat milk, but have almost half the sugar content and double the protein. Both drinks were a good consistency with the oat drink tasting slightly creamier, making it the more popular choice for drinking. The added vitamins and minerals give me reassurance that my children will be getting all the essentials needed for growth and development. At SMA® Nutrition nature inspires us everyday. I'm a big fan of both drinks because they're the only easily available dairy alternatives I've found that have enough calories and minerals for young children. My only criticism is that the soya version is quite sweet so I'll be looking to switch to the oat." Sarah, 34, West Midlands The cows' milk in formula contains 2 types of proteins – whey and casein. First infant formula is based on whey protein which is thought to be easier to digest than other types of formula.Pull the safety seal and open the lid. The scoop is provided under the lid. Lift the tab, pull on the foil seal, carefully and safety remove the seal and dispose of it. Goats' milk formulas are not suitable for infants with cows' milk allergy (also known as cows' milk protein allergy), as the proteins they contain are very similar. Hungrier baby formula (hungry milk) There are two organic formula milks available on the market, made by HiPP Organic and Kendamil. However, even in non-organic formulas, the pesticide residue level is set very low (must not exceed 0.01mg/kg of the reconstituted or ready-for-consumption product). Are any baby formula milk brands better than others? Lactose-free formula is available in pharmacies and shops, but if you think your baby may be lactose intolerant, it's important to speak to a midwife, health visitor or GP. Hypoallergenic formula
