About this deal

With your help, we can start to restore the lost wildflower habitat and make an important contribution to the biodiversity of Great Britain. Where do we get our Bee bombs from? Since we’ll be reconstituting the clay powder by adding water, we’ll be using a ratio for the basis of our mix – 1 part seeds – 4 parts clay powder – 5 parts soil.

If you’ve had a stressful week, I highly recommend using the modeling clay method to make your wildflower bombs. Now spread about two tablespoons of your growing media and ½ teaspoon of seeds onto your little clay pizza. Wildflowers are a little slower growers than many imported plants and flowers. Some will flower in the first year but most will not come out until the 2nd year. Our Wildflower Beebombs need no gardening skill, no tilling or sowing in the traditional sense. The seeds are combined with nurturing sifted soil and sheltering local clay to protect them from predators. Wildflowers are a lifeline for many insects and pollinators, yet they are being lost at an alarming rate due to industrialised agriculture and urbanisation. The Pollinator Beebom pictured contains a bumblebee- and honey bee-friendly seed mix made up of cornflower, vipers bugloss, wild marjoram, red clover, borage and phacelia. Plus, 10 per cent of the profits from Pollinator Beebom sales go directly into projects that help the Bumblebee Conservation Trust. I’m a firm believer in self-sufficiency, no matter where you live, and the power and pride that comes from doing something for yourself. Finding gifts is hard. We live in a throwaway society and in this commercial, consumer world, gift giving can feel like a short lived thrill. So many cupboards are filled with so many well intentioned ideas or last minute grabs. Using seedballs protects the seeds from predators and provides a nurturing environment for the seeds to germinate from, making it easier for you to create the wildflower habitat Britain needs.

Okay, now that you’ve gathered everything you need, let’s make some wildflower bombs. Wildflower Seed Bombs Using Wet or Modeling Clay And here’s where things get messy. I garden, even when the only space available is the rooftop of my apartment. I’ve been a knitter since age seven, and I spin and dye my own wool as well. And if you can ferment it, it’s probably in my pantry or on my kitchen counter. I can’t go more than a few days without a trip deep into the Pennsylvania State Game Lands looking for mushrooms, edible plants, or the sound of the wind in the trees.Seed bombs do work. You can of course just scatter seeds over your soil, but it's more likely that they will fail to take hold. The compost/clay mix of a seed bomb mix gives them a better chance of flowering successfully – and easier to sow. What can you do with seed bombs

Most tutorials for seed bombs simply state clay, some go so far as to say clay powder, but beyond that, you’re left wondering what kind of clay.
