Eldredge frames the book around his outdoor experiences and anecdotes about his family and references elements of pop culture such as the film Braveheart and lyrics from songs.I got that Joana was often unhappy and happy at the same time; that she was disassociated from other people, that she was having trouble integrating her self with her body, that she had a horror of being trapped and an obsession with freedom. No reproach, no demands, no rules, no dogma. Lawrence "Viper" Finkle is one of my absolute favorite leading men. There's nothing I love more than a brooding, reluctant hero. The road for Michelle and Viper was an unconventional, unexpected one rife with heartbreaking emotions and unpredictable romance all the way through Cement Heart. Viper is moody and stubborn and sarcastic. He has soft spots, but he really never sees himself the way everyone else does... the way I do. He's beautiful and protective, fiercely loyal, generous and capable of so much love. He just doesn't believe it. Me: Only too well.
