About this deal

I don't know in what world these functional doctors live but a normal person can't eat such a strict diet forever. It would mean stop living. We are social animals....we have friends, a romantic partner, a career that involves lunch/dinners with colleagues (including your bosses), we want to go on vacations ecc. A diet as described in the book (and in other books written by other functional doctors) is completely impractical unless you are willing to give up literally everything. Reena Jadhav: you don’t have a friend, dear friend, whose daughter is complaining of pain, which he says feels like it’s in her bones, and again, no diagnosis, all the tests are clear and if you come across something like that, what, how does it hurt in the bone?

Reena Jadhav: And that was me. You know, I had a autoimmune symptoms, undiagnosed, nothing on the desk but all kinds of symptoms and at the end of the day it really was leaky gut and there was a test. What tests do you recommend for someone who is curious to figure out if they have leaky gut? And I say that’s because every conventional doctor that I, that I saw and consulted with, including two different gi said that they didn’t understand the concept of leaky gut. They certainly didn’t believe that it was just all hocus pocus, so, uh, sometimes if you go to a Conventional medical doctor, they’re not going to have even a test for you to do. But functional medicine does have tests. So talk a little bit about what tests do you recommend? Imagine going through years of hospital trips, doctors visits, and horrible pain all before you reach the age of 10. This was the young girl’s story until her mother brought her into my office. After an extensive exam and laboratory testing, she was found to have non-celiac gluten sensitivity. to my brother, who is not a celiac. We did the Enterolab test which proved to be the best for our family, specially for the ones who are non celiac yet, but are developing slowly other diseases. My dad is DQ8 and my mome is DQ2, so we have a double celiac gene in ourThis has all been pretty well documented. It’s not a great mystery. I think it’s just a great mystery for the average person. What I enjoyed about this book was there wealth of information that the author was able to provide about how to go about working with gluten sensitivities in your life. I loved that he was able to develop a ray of hope for people who have tried everything else and have lost hope. I especially love that this could be a beginning point for many people that won't have to go through all of the medicines and surgeries to be able to fix themselves. symptoms are more clear and obvious, but the ones with gluten sensitivity have all those mysterious symptoms, hard to link to gluten. Reena Jadhav: which is again another epidemic now, it’s apparently the number one diagnosed autoimmune disease for women. Then you have the fact that many of these grains and legumes are grown and they contain heavy metals like cadmium and arsenic and mercury. These things can interfere with how our calcium is pulled into our joints and how calcium is pulled into our tendons, ligaments and bone. It can create a weaker bone, a weaker tendon, a weaker ligament that’s predisposed to injury. That’s predisposed to ripping and tearing just by normal use.

It's absolutely possible, it's just a matter of financing research and having scientists interested in working on it. Both are possible if we only we can unite. See the above tattoo? That’s my left arm. If you can’t read it, it says “No Grain. No Pain.” I got it about a year after I was diagnosed with this aggravating disease. I figured if I’m going to mar my body for life, it should at least have some meaning, right? So now obviously the book is sitting on your shelf there. It looks really good. So when you talk about no grain, are you really talking about taking gluten out of your diet or are you talking about all grains and all forms? So what happens … These medications, one of the side effects is leaky gut. There’s a study just published found that even in low doses, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories cause erosion and ulceration in the stomach and small intestines. Which in and of itself can create a whole battery of problems as it relates to autoimmune disease. What about hormones? Before we started recording, you had talked about the connection between grains and hormones and I joked about the fact that yes, you know, women over 40, like me, uh, we noticed that we can’t tolerate grains as much. If you could shed a little light on that.

Most people don’t get sleep. They abuse that aspect of their life. My advice is to try to mimic or immolate your sleep pattern with the sun. Try to go down when it’s dark. Try to wake up when it’s light. I know in the winter, especially if you’re further north, that’s harder to do because it gets dark at five-thirty. But really try to sleep between the hours of ten P.M. and two A.M. Preferably longer on both ends, but this is when your hormones reset and this is how your cortisol is regulated. Instead of suggesting such a strict diet as a solution, we should all come together and finance some studies to find a drug which is safe and make us able to enjoy our lives again. Now couple that to what the CDC just did. This is new information. The Center for Disease Control just issued the strongest warning ever against doctors prescribing pain medications. Primarily we’re talking about the opioids. The narcotics. One of the reasons why is they kill so many people. If we take pain medications as a cause of death, they’re responsible for more than 30 thousand deaths annually. Every year. Then we also have food as a whole. Yeah, food provides micro-nutrients but some people are allergic to the food that they eat and the foods they’re eating are creating an inflammatory response that’s leading to chronic inflammation and pain. Probably the most well-studied and the most well-talked about to date is gluten. Gluten sensitivity is being a trigger for autoimmune pain. Dr. Osborne: Yeah, We see it quite often. See crpc reactive protein. We see it with esr, erythrocyte sedimentation rate. We also see it with other inflammatory factors. There’s another inflammatory factor called human transforming growth factor beta one that we’ll see come down when people go on a grain free diet. There’s another one called compliment four a or c four a, which is an inflammatory marker. they can also be reduced when people go on a grain free diet
