About this deal

This expression offers an uncompromising note of brine-laden peat and iodine, with charcoal and sweeter fruit notes also present. Aromas of new shoe leather, iodine, smoked trout, flowers, intense grain, soft cheese, peat-reek and dried seaweed. I've only been through about 4 dozen single malts over 20 years but this is my favourite overall (so far). Starting from 2021, thanks to the synergy with Tree-Nation, Bottle of Italy has contributed to the planting of over 6,000 trees. It’s what layers notes of Manuka honey and grilled bacon onto our renowned flavours of peat smoke and seaweed.

Palate Seaweed-led, with a hint of vanilla ice cream and more than a whiff of notes from the first aid box (TCP, plasters etc). A single cask, well aged and independently bottled Laphroaig is the kind of release that we tend to get excited about! Laphroaig Distillery, nestled on the rugged shores of Islay, an island in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland, is celebrated as a haven for peat lovers and a custodian of the island's iconic smoky character.

Even though Laphroaig is not the most peated whisky around (that honour goes to Ardbeg), I do think the peated flavours are at the forefront of the palate and are highly prominent, which can make it seem more peaty than the likes of Ardbeg.

Interestingly, a flavour similar to tanning leather develops on the palate with interchangeable sweetness and saltyness to add to complexity. Unforgettable flavours from our classic 10 Year Old whisky find harmony with the sweetness and complexity of Oloroso sherry to create Laphroaig® 10 Sherry Oak. This bottle of Laphroaig 10 Year Old 1990s (Damaged Tube) is an official bottling which was produced in the Islay region of Scotland. Filled with a pungent, earthy aroma, the sweet nuttiness of barley and the delicate heathery perfume of Islay's streams. Lore, meaning the passing of a skill or tradition through word of mouth is the name given to this extremely tasty Islay whisky. It took the crown from Lagavulin 16 over two years ago and every so often I do a taste test between Lag 16, Arbeg 10 and Lap 10 and each time I prefer the Lap. Nose: The nuanced aroma reveals whiffs of sweet cereals, fresh oak and pipe tobacco with touches of leather, nutmeg and vanilla.

This single malt matures in charred ex-Bourbon barrels for a full decade before being bottled at its natural cask strength, preserving its powerful and distinctive flavors. This Scottish whisky is the original Laphroaig, distilled the same way today as when Ian Hunter invented it more than 75 years ago. While we have taken care in preparing this summary and believe it to be accurate, it is not a substitute for reading the product packaging and label prior to use. This peated whisky is renowned for its bold, smoky taste, followed by a hint of seaweed and a surprising sweetness.
