About this deal

Defy the Night was one of my favorite YA reads of 2022, so I was super excited to read Defend the Dawn this year, unfortunately though... this was just nowhere near how good Defy the Night was. The plot, the romance, the main characters, the side characters, the world… just everything was sooooo well done!! The writing was also once again amazing! Brigid Kemmerer is a true genius. She just knows how to write incredible YA, fantasy books!! Maybe Brigid Kemmerer should have just cut out any attempts to make it a fantasy and just be a romance with very complex characters, because that’s basically what this book is anyways.

I think the third book will move faster now that our characters have begun working on some of their biggest emotional challenges and it now feels like the stage is fully set. I appreciate how Kemmerer doesn’t demonize or sanctify anyone, and you find yourself agreeing or disagreeing with everyone at some point or another. Compromise is the name of the game. You also get more storyline from Harristan. I loved his storyline and how he progressed as a character. He has my heart already 🥰 Return to a land of royal intrigue, adventure and romance in Brigid Kemmerer’s sequel to Defy the Night — Defend the Dawn.

This could be their only chance to keep the peace and bring relief to the people of Kandala, but danger strikes during the journey to Ostriary, and no one is who they seemed to be. . . Contiene narrativa muy buena, si bien puedo decir que casi nunca me acuerdo de las anteriores partes en este las tenía bien vívidas en mi mente, por lo tanto desde el principio ya estaba completamente metida en la historia. Pese a ello la autora nos mete en contexto por si acaso no recordamos ciertos aspectos importantes. stars because it was super enjoyable for no reason (i.e. there wasn’t even a plot). Happy reading! 💛✨ This was just absolutely EVERYTHING!!! I just loved each and every second I was reading this book! Literally flew through it like it was nothing! It was addicting, captivating and interesting throughout it all!! This series deserves so much more hype! I don’t get how people aren’t gushing about it on booktok?!?! Like it’s AMAZING!!!

His side of the story carried this book for me! I really hope that we will see even more development of his character in the last book! I need more of his POVs!! Alright. I’m a bit bummed with this one, as I sadly didn’t enjoy it as much as Defy the Night, which I loved. I think part of this is due to the fact that some of the relational conflicts that arise between some of the characters felt really childish, pointless, and frustrating. PDF / EPUB File Name: Defend_the_Dawn_-_Brigid_Kemmerer.pdf, Defend_the_Dawn_-_Brigid_Kemmerer.epub It seems like Lochlan leading the rebels and he still doesn’t believe king’s intentions to deliver medicine equally. Arghhhhhhhh! Oh my goodness! I’m screaming!!! This is not fair! That cliffhanger tore my heart apart! I need to know what’s gonna happen next! How will survive without knowing my favorite characters are safe and sound! Advisory: Violence, injury and fighting, blood, healing, war injuries, death. Sexual references, comments and innuendo made about sexual relationships.

A captivating combination of thrilling adventure, swoon-worthy romance, and royal intrigue, Defy the Night is everything I crave in a fantasy romance.” ― Stephanie Garber, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Caraval seriesIn a time of typewriters and steam engines, Iris Winnow awaits word from her older brother, who has enlisted on the side of Enva the Skyward goddess. Alcohol abuse led to her mother’s losing her job, and Iris has dropped out of school and found work utilizing her writing skills at the Oath Gazette. Hiding the stress of her home issues behind a brave face, Iris competes for valuable assignments that may one day earn her the coveted columnist position. Her rival for the job is handsome and wealthy Roman Kitt, whose prose entrances her so much she avoids reading his articles. At home, she writes cathartic letters to her brother, never posting them but instead placing them in her wardrobe, where they vanish overnight. One day Iris receives a reply, which, along with other events, pushes her to make dramatic life decisions. Magic plays a quiet role in this story, and readers may for a time forget there is anything supernatural going on. This is more of a wartime tale of broken families, inspired youths, and higher powers using people as pawns. It flirts with clichéd tropes but also takes some startling turns. Main characters are assumed White; same-sex marriages and gender equality at the warfront appear to be the norm in this world.

Tessa is really showing her naivete in this book. It’s not exactly a “fault”, because from how and where she was raised and what we know of her from the first book I don’t expect her to be some political savant and amazing at reading other people. BUT, sometimes, I wanted to sit her down and ask her to please not be so trusting of what people say at face value. To ask more pointed questions and to consider what a person has to gain or lose that may make them act a certain way before jumping to judgments. Good grief. Book Genre: Fantasy, Fantasy Romance, Fiction, High Fantasy, Retellings, Romance, Young Adult, Young Adult Fantasy i will say that, at this point, the characters still feel the same and i love how their complexity/depth really shine in this installment. the writing is also still as easy-going and bingeable, and the world-building feels consistent and familiar. its just that the plot feels like a spin-off of the events of the first book, rather than a continuation, if that makes sense (even though i do think the pirate adventure is fun). That said, I’d probably also call it a crossover because Brigid Kemmerer has written other young adult novels and has a pretty significant (well-deserved) following among YA readers.

Reviews

The embers of revolution continue to simmer in Kandala. The country is still plagued by disease, and the only cure is a scarce moonflower elixir only the rich can afford. GOODNESS WHERE TO BEGIN. Brigid Kemmerer seriously just never lets me down. She continuously delivers on all the tropes I love and is just *clenches fist* SO good at the angst and the tension and the romance and the twisty turny plots!!! Istg I was the edge of my goddamn seat throughout the last few chapters! Like… the twists and turns once again had my jaw on the FLOOR!!! Especially the ending. I‘m not okay and I won’t be okay, until I know how it’ll end!!! Also, the ending?! 🫣🫣 I am literally so mad that we got a cliffhanger and the 3rd book isn't out UNTIL JANUARY. Like, how am I supposed to wait that long?! 😤😤
