Only later did I discover he chose a different “victim” every night. So, tonight, Matthew, I’m going to be the wifie you embarrassed to within a piddle of her bladder! Firstly, what a great cover. The woman waiting in the window, the muted, sophisticated colours, the title. It is all really fitting of the story within. PDF / EPUB File Name: Last_Time_We_Met_-_Emily_Houghton.pdf, Last_Time_We_Met_-_Emily_Houghton.epub The author's writing is incredible. She has a lyrical prose. The words just flow. The author, Carol Mason knows how to keep the interest of her readers. Good character development. However, the story-line did not exactly work out for me; I could not connect with the main character, Celine. Her feelings were genuine. Still, her confusion in the face of the events that she faced made me somehow resent her. On the other hand, Mark was an admirable character. I loved how he dealt with his divorce. I admire his resilience. Also, Celine's sister, Jacqui was a vibrant character. I loved how she went around chasing her dreams.

The story covers some big issues – especially substance abuse, addiction, loss/estrangement of family members – and does so thoughtfully and sensitively. I really felt for Fin and Elles with everything they went through; they were very believable and engaging, and all aspects of their story are engaging and well-written. There are some real tear-jerker moments where we see how the repercussion of family breakdown has affected Aimee, and it is these moments of heightened emotion that really showcase the skill of this author’s literary expertise. Little did I know we had front-row seats when my quine announced she’d to go to the lavvie. So, the three of us were, admittedly conspicuous, late arrivals. Because this is a spoiler-free review, I won't comment specifically on the resolution of this book. All I will say is that I was satisfied. Deeply, deeply satisfied. The story presents two equally compelling potential endings, but the actual ending was, for me, the only viable one. There are no "neat red bows" here. Some things are left unresolved, but the story resolves enough to give the reader closure. The book was also injected with some humour, with entertaining support characters who were involved with interesting situations themselves.

Fast forward to fifteen or so years later, and Eleanor is feebly trying to get over an awful break-up with her long-standing partner Oliver. No amounts of tea and sympathy from her mother, sister Freya, or even her best friend Sal are helping her get over him. Despite this rather major disconnect between me and the main romance, however, I still really enjoyed this novel for the writing, characters and ‘adult coming of age’ storyline and would definitely read more from Emily Houghton in future. Note: My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a free electronic copy of this book for review purposes.

enjoyed how the chapters were short and there was a lot of dialogue. Plus there was a whole chapter dedicated to Toronto!! Reading about my city just gave me all the feels!! It wasn’t the main part of the book at all - but I LOVED it! This is an emotionally driven story, and even though it revolves around the difficult topic of divorce, the story transmits more hope than regret. Celine and Mark are very fleshed out characters, Mason is as great with character development as she is with prose. The mental struggles the two face head-on in Love Market are realistic and poignant. They intended to stay close, to go to university together and, if they were both still single at 35, to marry. Our second match in the group stage of the FA Women's Continental League Cup sees us face Bristol City at Leyton Orient's Brisbane Road for the second time this season on Wednesday evening (7.30pm). How have they fared since our 3-1 win in the WSL on 8 October? TOPICS & THEMES: family, childhood friends, loss of a loved one, alcoholism, another chance at love, mental health issues

I didn't enjoy this. I don't think I'm a fan of the friends to lovers tropes. It was far too slow paced for me and I would have liked more signs of Fin's feelings to Eleanor when they were younger. I ended up skipping through a lot of the book as I just found it a bit boring and the main characters hardly interacted which I didn't like. Last Time We Met” by Carol Mason asks the question of whether it is possible for a person to get over his/her first love. Celine runs a match-making service in London. She has a husband of 10 years, Mike, and a pre-teen daughter, Aimee. A beautifully-written, emotionally rich story about hope, love and new beginnings Lynsey James, author of The Single Dad's HandbookHITTING HOT TROPES: This slow burn, friends-to-lovers second chance romance is what readers are craving right now. Last Time We Met by Emily Houghton – eBook Details I’d like to thank NetGalley and Random House UK for approving me for an ARC of this book. I read Emily Houghton’s debut, Before I Saw You, and loved it so I couldn’t wait to give this one a read. While there may be no real surprises in the way this story ends, the journey is far from smooth. Fin and Eleanor each must navigate some difficult personal terrain including issues such as alcoholism, family dysfunction and mental health issues. While I enjoyed the fairly predictable path taken by this story, I was wrenched out of the story every time someone smirked (smirk or smirked appears 24 times in the narrative). Now, I do realise that smirking has more than one meaning but I had to keep stopping while I wondered if the smirker was grinning, sneering, or leering.
