Together with the following four chapters previously referred to as The Boy King and His Regents. [14] Covering Lord Cregan Stark's time at King's Landing. That said, I have no idea who thought it was a good idea to insert dramatic interpretations of what historical figures might have said. The author claims she wanted to bring the historical figures to life. Making up dialogue is not the way to do so unless it's in a novel - in which case, I'll read a novel, not historical non-fiction. Instead, these made up conversations threw me out of what was otherwise a gripping read. It was further weird because the author did include (albeit modernized) real quotes from letters/reports, and it was so confusing to have the made up stuff interspersed with this. I almost gave the book 3 stars but decided to be genrous because it *was* good otherwise. Mary, Queen of Scots makes a heavy appearance in “Blood, Fire & Gold” standing as the middle man and thorn in both women’s sides. This coverage of Mary is completely (and abruptly) cut off before reappearing in the final chapters of “Blood, Fire & Gold”. Paranque’s “Blood, Fire & Gold” also suffers from repetition in of facts; slowing the pace and being taking away from any pizzazz held by “Blood, Fire & Gold”. The popularity of “The Crown,” the Netflix series centering on Queen Elizabeth II and her family—not to mention the recent documentary on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle—confirms one’s sense that royal affairs remain a subject of intense interest, not least for citizens of modern democracies.

On July 22nd, 2017, Martin revealed on his Not a Blog that the material for Fire & Blood had grown so large that the decision had been made to publish the fictional histories of the Targaryen kings in two volumes. The first volume, simply called Fire & Blood, covers the history of Westeros from Aegon's Conquest up to and through the regency of Aegon III Targaryen. In July 2017, Martin reported that the first volume of Fire & Blood was already largely written, whereas the second volume remains largely unwritten. [6] In April 2018, Martin said that Fire & Blood, Volume Two will be completed "a few years down the pike." [1] This was a fascinating look into the Tudor Era and 3 Queens are trying to keep amity between England, France Scotland and Spain. But unfortunately Religion and Religious fanatics said No we are going to put a stop to that ridiculousness and lets create a long lasting bloody massacre (St. Bartholemew Massacre)the cult behaviors on full view of Protestantism and Catholicism. Dr. Paranque wrote and created vivid visuals throughout my reading of this book. From the fashion at the time to oral history in letters and actions from Catherine to Elizabeth, Elizabeth to Henry and Catherine and to their ambassadors. Dr. Paranque did take written styling from Erik Larson which she indicates in the Author's note at the end of the book. This is a story of two remarkable visionaries: a story of blood, fire and gold. It is also a tale of ceaseless calculation, of love and rivalry, of war and wisdom - and of female power in a male world. Shining new light on their legendary kingdoms Blood, Fire and Gold provides a new way of looking at two of history's most powerful women, and how they shaped each other as profoundly as they shaped the course of history. Drawing on their letters and brand new research, Estelle Paranque writes an entirely new chapter in the well-worn story of the sixteenth century. Aegon I Targaryen's Conquest of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. [7] Largely similar to The Reign of the Dragons: The Conquest as it appeared in The World of Ice & Fire.Furthermore, Fire & Blood contains an overview of the entire Targaryen succession, and a family tree depicting the Targaryen family until 136AC. r/asoiaf.com: (Spoilers Extended) The Possibilities for GRRM's New Novella in the Book of Swords Anthology
