About this deal

Fans of KC have been waiting for this book, in previous books Queenie is the matriarch Mum/Nan/Sister/Friend in the Butler series and this book charts her life from the beginning right up to the first Butler book Vinny and Michael have always protected each other and provided for the family. Together they were formidable but business always stopped at the front door. Now someone has changed the rules – women and children are fair game and one of the Butlers is going to end up six feet under. I can’t actually say that I ‘liked’ most of the characters as to be honest the majority scared the crap out of me but they certainly intrigued me enough to read on. I have to say that Vinny Butler Senior really made my skin crawl and was my least favourite character. I couldn’t help but keep my fingers crossed that he got what was coming to him in the end. The characters were really well written and I couldn’t help but read on to see what fate had in store for them. I am a bit of a nosy old bat in that sense. For fans of Kimberly Chambers Butler family, we discover how Queenie became the woman she is today - the experiences that moulded her thoughts and actions, and most importantly, how she ended up being matriarch of this much feared (though respected) gangland family.

When I started this series, I wasn’t very sure it would hit my buttons because, let's be honest, this is not my usual. It’s not dirty, it’s not erotic and there is little to no romance.you make me happy when skies are grey, your never know dear how much I love you so don't take my sunshine away The special thing that this author creates is the characters and this along with her other books she certainly knows how to bring them to life.

Michael Butler is Vinny's younger brother. Family is everything to the Butlers and Mitchells and Michael knows this. But he is starting to take another look at his life but then he witnesses something that will change everything regarding the family. I am aware of the Kray twins, of course, and the havoc they raised around them, but I would hate to think every reader of this book, and Kimberley Chambers is a popular author I understand, that everyone from the east end was like this. Now married to the useless Albie Butler, Queenie is raising her children to fight their own battles. If the O’Learys taught her anything, it was that surviving meant doing whatever you had to, no questions asked, and family always comes first. The Butler boys will make sure their mother’s name becomes East End legend. This is a great book to immerse yourself in and for fans of the Butlers a must read that cant disappoint and brings a huge feel good factor to her fans and readers Here is where the Butler’s saga starts. Under Vinny’s volatile, unpredictable, explosive temper, manipulative and greedy personality, the Butler’s became the kings of the East End. A family, trust me, you don’t want to mess with. And that's not a criticism of the author or anything that she was doing in this book. It's just not my genre.

I probably could drop a star as it didn't have the intensity or the rollercoaster ride of the previous books but, as I did enjoy it and couldn't stop reading it, it gets the full FIVE STARS from me. trample" - that is putting it mildly. This author is fast becoming a firm favourite. The writing is brilliant, the storyline is absolutely compelling. I could not put it down. The twists and turns are bloody awesome. Is my daddy famous, Nan?’ Ava enquired innocently. Queenie couldn’t help but smile. ‘Yes, darlin’. Your daddy is a legend.’" I will just say that I am glad I started this over the weekend because I have done nothing but "sat on me arse" all day long to finish this. I know it says that the book can be read as a stand-alone but, honestly, I think you are doing yourself a disservice if you don't read the other books by this author, especially the Butler and Mitchell books (where we are first introduced to Queenie). Now Queenie….despite her twisted values and morals, you just got to love this woman! Some of the things she comes out with is unbelievable and absolutely class! Everything that is wrong about this character is just so right!

Early Life

I find it particularly difficult to write a review for a book and an author that I absolutely love - there’s always the nagging doubt that I won’t be able to do it justice - but here goes anyway. Tainted Love is a fantastic book and I made me smile when I saw where the title came from, but that would spoil the plot. Anyone who has had a run in with Her Majesty’s finest and been near the type of circles the Butlers move in will recognise the characterisation of many they have come across in the Butlers. This might be set in the East End, but could easily be Salford, Moss Side in Greater Manchester or Northfield in Birmingham, St Paul’s Bristol, amongst many. My review will be vague. I don't want to give anything away. I found the first part of the book a little slow. I suppose because it is the grand finale for a series of 7 books, I think. She had to build and sort of tell us what happened in the past. I guess this is so it can be read as a stand-alone (which I don't think it can or should - you need to experience the whole Butler/Mitchell/O'Hara story from the previous books) All the other characters aside one of the ones who I was most intrigued to read about was a young Vinny Butler. We knew some of the reasons and events that made him the man he was in the later books but one reason why a prequel being written after a series has been completed works so well is that it makes us understand the characters more. I found myself thinking about scenes from the series after reading something in this book and thinking, 'well that’s why that happened' or 'oh that makes perfect sense now'. Vinny has always been a fascinating and enigmatic character and I have to admit I was gripped to some parts of his story here in Queenie. The Butler boys ruled the East End or wherever they landed. They were all despicable in their own rite but it was Vinny who was the most evil and vindictive. He was vile.

I'm a big fan of Kimberley Chambers. I've read all her books so when I learned she was writing this book, I couldn't wait to read it. The story tells us what Queenies life was like before we met her in The Trap. Her life has not been an easy one. You will need to read the book to find out the reasons why. The storyline is believable and the characters are dysfunctional but lovable. There is humor and sadness in the Butlers lives. This book can be read as a standalone, but I'm sure, if you haven't already read The Butker series, you will after reading this marvellous book. I highly recommend it. The final thrilling showdown between the Mitchells and the Butlers. This is Kimberley Chambers at her heart-stopping best! As with the other books in this series I wanted to sit and read this in one sitting, but I paced myself to make the book last, all the way through I wanted to carry on, just keep reading that little bit more and find out what was happening and as usual you get near to the End and you just don't want it to finish.. We have Albie, a cheating and drunk bastard of a father, Queenie, the head of this crazy bundle and 4 children: Vinny, Roy, Michael and Brenda. So we join the Butler family in the 1980s and when I say there is a lot going on, I really mean it. All of the loved and loathed characters make their reappearances and they all seem to be at different stages of their life. Out of all the characters that surprised me in this series the major one has been Little Vinny. It seems Little Vinny has done his utmost to turn his life around following the arrival of his little boy. He is determined not to follow in his father’s footsteps, and even knowing what had gone on in the past I couldn't help rooting for him. Vinny is his usual bolshie and arrogant self and frankly I’m surprised he is still breathing after everything that has happened.

Career

The Butlers ….. it was the first series I read from this author. I was gripped from start to finish. It was then that she received a phone-call from her friend Hazel, who asked if she wanted to take a hair dressing course. It was then that Chambers decided to try her hand at writing a novel. A few days later, she began writing her premiere novel Billie Jo. When she told her family about her new aspirations, they believed that it was a fad and that she would grow tired of this new venture as well.
