But under this flawless skin is a rotten deception, one deepened by a social-media saturated society. ‘Most of the bodies we see online on a daily basis aren’t even real, but rather enhanced or modified by technology to conform to a current, unsustainable trend,’ says LA-based photographer Julia SH, who is exhibiting powerful, textured portraits of bodies rarely depicted in 21st-century media, presented in museum-like frames. ‘In the US, what little nudity permitted is usually shown in a sexual context. Seeing nudes in a museum is one of the only exceptions to this. I created a series where I framed my models as sculptures and works of art in the hope that the viewer will suspend any judgments about whether they find the models sexually attractive or not, or whether their bodies are socially “acceptable”. The more body types we are exposed to, the more pragmatic our view will become.’ Body acceptance isn’t something that just magically happens. Standing nude in front of the world seems like a recipe for trauma. Therefore, speaking to a professional may be a better use of time for those who struggle. While I have no qualms about nudity in safe spaces, I wouldn’t want to constantly be assessing whether a family member or supervisor has already gotten a glimpse of me with my clothes off. Still, if folks consented to this, then by all means, we’re all about bodily autonomy around here.

The annual Bay to Breakers race takes place on the third Sunday in May (May 15, 2020). Lins says a highlight of their adventures so far was a stunning beach in Colombia, in Tayrona National Park.

There is nothing there. There’s just the National Park and you can spend the night there,” says Lins. “You have to hike for a couple of hours to reach the beach. Earlier in the pandemic, there were reports of a growing interest in naturism, as more people were confined to their homes, working and socializing virtually. Bay to BreakersAmid all of this voyeurism, Richardson asks contestants personal sexual questions and peppers at-home viewers with facts concerning everything from the anti-aging properties of moles to why joining the mile-high club can induce intense orgasms. These little sequences are illustrated with lively animation. “Naked Attraction” episodes typically run 45 minutes or less, and are split in half, with two contestants weeding through their six singles. Each episode ends with a date, and producers follow up two weeks or so later to see whether things have panned out between the couples. Spoiler alert: More often than not, they haven’t. Each episode begins with a warning that reads, “The following series is intended only for mature audiences. It contains full frontal nudity, coarse language, and graphic discussions about the human body. Viewer discretion is advised.” From there, the dating show begins generically enough. Host Anna Richardson introduces viewers to a hopeful single looking for love. In what could have easily been a contestant’s intro on “The Great British Baking Show,” fans learn the basics, including the candidate’s name, age, occupation and most importantly, what they are looking for in a partner. This was the most perfect, natural way to start the day and we would experience the same sensation each day for the next 12 days as we sailed on the world’s largest square rigger around the Mediterranean – in the nude.

As the popularity of these events has spread, races now attract serious runners who, in many cases, are going nude for the first time. The races have gotten so official they’re advertised in running magazines. The 5K is a great way to try social nudity while doing something enjoyable. And guys, no – it doesn’t hurt to run naked and ladies, if you need to wear a bra to run – do so.
