About this deal

We offer many different types of belly bars - some are designed differently just for style, others may have been designed to help make wearing the piercing a little more comfortable (pregnancy belly bars being an obvious example!). Below we've outlined the top 5 types of belly bars and the key features of each.

Proper maintenance for your Piercing Jewellery will significantly improve the lifetime. As we mentioned earlier, 316L Surgical Steel with brass used as a second material is very sensitive to discolouration. When brass is used, ensure the jewellery is thoroughly dried to prevent tarnishing. As the name suggests, this type of Belly Bar has a twisted bar which means the balls sit horizontally from each other in the piercing, rather than vertically like in a standard non-dangle belly bar. There is no real advantage or disadvantage to the twist belly bars, more just a matter of preference!

Our range of PTFE pregnancy retainers and pregnancy belly bars. Keep you piercing throughout your pregnancy with a pregnancy piercing retainer Either PTFE or Bio compatible belly bars are suitable. We offer PTFE in lengths up to 30mm and Bio in lengths up to 19mm.

Material

Women who have had children usually do not have a risk of the piercing migrating or rejecting because the skin has been stretched. Some women with healed piercings have successfully worn jewellery throughout their pregnancies. In other cases the ridge of the navel expands and flattens so much as to make the jewellery uncomfortable.

Surgical Steel is quite hard, which makes it more complicated to create the intricate details of piercings and earrings. To keep jewellery affordable, often a second material is used to create the fine details of the piece. Brass is the most common second material used because it is a resilient metal. Be aware that piercings and earrings made with brass are very sensitive to discoloration. PTFE or Bio compatible jewellery can be more comfortable than metal because it is softer and more flexible. To sumarise, both materials can be cut to size and attachments can be threaded on to either end (either metal or acrylic), both are flexible, the main difference is that PTFE is totally flexible and Bioplast is preformed into a curve and available in different colours. Both options are equally safe and comfortable After delivery the navel will return to its original shape but the skin may be loose and in some cases the piercing may sag. The most common type of belly bar is the standard non-dangle made from 316L Surgical Steel, often with a 5mm top ball and 8mm bottom ball. These are a great first piercing as unlikely to get caught on clothing, allowing for a new piercing to heal properly. You will find plenty of styles and materials available, including Gold Belly Bars, Silver Belly bars and other non-metal designs such as Acrylic.Pregnancy (or maternity) Belly Bars are designed to retain the navel piercing during pregnancy. This means the vast majority will have substantially bigger bars (i.e.from 25mm upwards) and the bar itself will generally be made from PTFE. The PTFE is flexible which is perfect as the stomach grows and it's also hypoallergenic. You can buy balls separately in our Attachments & Spares section. Is This Suitable For My Piercing?
