About this deal

I really liked Samantha Janus in the role of Mandy; not simply eye candy for the boys, she is very funny as she handles her string of jobs and men. Spatz S1E3 (1990) - FULL EPISODE". YouTube. Archived from the original on 17 November 2021 . Retrieved 19 July 2021. Sitcoms about flat sharing have always proved popular over the years. In the '70's we had 'It's Awfully Bad For Your Eyes, Darling', 'The Liver Birds' and 'Man About The House'. In the '80's, we were given 'The Young Ones' and 'Girls On Top' whilst the '90's gave us 'Bottom', 'Men Behaving Badly' and, of course, 'Game On', written by Bernadette Davis and Andrew Davies. It is rather similar in style to Simon Nye's previously mentioned 'Men Behaving Badly', with two men sharing a flat and vieing for the attention of an attractive female. Whilst not garnering the same amount of popularity of the earlier show, it was nevertheless well enough received to run to three series. A fourth series was considered. Bernadette Davis voiced her desire to focus the next series on the development of Matthew, who due to his flat-bound existence, she began to find increasingly hard to write for; the addition of a "radicalist" new gay or lesbian housemate was also part of her suggestions to add a new element of interest to the series. However, despite a continuity announcer stating over the closing credits of the final episode in a 1999 repeat that the series would return the following year, only one further repeated episode was broadcast the following year, and a fourth series never emerged. Like many sitcoms, the first series has that sense of a feeling out process. It's trying to find its rhythm, led by Ben Chaplin’s performance as Matt. He’s the embodiment of Nineties machismo: sat around reading loaded magazine, reenacting scenes from Reservoir Dogs, and waxing his surfboard in the living room. Even the title of the series comes from his laddish catchphrase – “Game on, Martin, game on” – accompanied by a mini fist bump. She had already read the book and made a point of watching the 2016 Emily Blunt movie to get a sense of what audience might expect from an adaptation. The film has its fans, though it takes liberties with the material - and arguably completely ruins the mood by relocating the story to America (removing that crucial, condensation-on-the-windows claustrophobia of the London commuter run). BBC One – EastEnders – Characters". Bbc.co.uk. 1 January 1970. Archived from the original on 26 August 2009 . Retrieved 7 June 2014. I think that’s become quite unfashionable,” says Wiliam. “People forget that most comedies were recorded in front of a studio audience. That’s really fallen out of fashion.”

Spaced, which aired in 1999, the year after Game On’s third and final series, was the next significant sitcom about twenty-something pals. Speaking about the origins of Spaced at the BFI last month, Simon Pegg said: “We wanted to make a show that wasn’t like Game On… No disrespect to those shows but the shows of the era about people our age […] were written by 50, 60-year-old white men.”

British Soap Awards 2010: The Winners". digitalspy.co.uk. 9 May 2010 . Retrieved 30 September 2012. I noticed I was becoming more anti-social," she says. "Part of that was about preserving energy levels. At the beginning of the tour I was keeping to myself, staying in my room. The only place I was living and breathing was on stage. But there was something depressing about being within the four walls of a theatre. I try to go for a walks so that it doesn't feel so claustrophobic." Rita Simons and Samantha Janus– Digital Spy Soap Awards 2008 – Digital Spy". Digital Spy . Retrieved 22 October 2009. Samantha said: "I was in Liverpool yesterday and it was wonderful. I was terrified I didn't think anyone would remember. Fans organised this huge prepress to the Eurovision and you know I went on stage and they knew all the words! I honestly had the best time!"

Clare Monaghan (Tracy Keating) – An Irish nurse, Clare is Martin's girlfriend in the second series and then his ex. She meets Martin and initially makes a deal with him to lose her virginity, not knowing that he was also a virgin. They start dating and eventually break up due to Martin's inability to trust her around other men, his almost vegetative state, and irreconcilable life paths - Clare wanted to travel the world while Martin did not. She appears in five episodes of series two, and four episodes of series three. Actress Tracy Keating also makes a further appearance in the final episode as a different character, a woman who Martin pursues because she looks like Clare. Keating plays this part with an English accent. Dennis and Ursula - Two further unseen characters referenced throughout the show, they are an elderly couple who live in the flat next door. Notably, Martin borrows their rusted, unsightly Nissan to drive Mandy to church on her wedding day. I vaguely remember the second and third series, but from watching these episodes of the first series I have to say Ben Chaplin is out-of-this-world as Matthew, I very much doubt the other guy was as good. His performance as the highly deluded landlord is perfect, he should be totally unlikeable as he talks nothing but rubbish...but still you can sort of feel sorry and grudging admiration for him and his warped imagination as he constantly struggles to entertain himself. Particularly funny was the moment he sneaked into Mandy's bed and wore her panties! But Game On might have more to say about its cultural moment than dirty jokes and leering. From the perspective of a female writer, the blokes feel appropriately idiotic. It was, after all, the mid-Nineties. As Matt Malone would say, game on to that.
