About this deal

Don’t waste time and money spending months searching unreliable sources with contradicting data. Let Harmony sort through the fluff and confusion for you, put all the pieces together to figure out what really works, and hand you exactly what you need to know. Does your doctor still recommend that you avoid cholesterol and eat lots of whole-grains? What about a paleo diet or ketogenic diet, have they been mentioned in an office visit? So much of the nutrition and lifestyle advice doctors give is just plain wrong, and that can be dangerous. This book will help you sort through the medical myths and the outright lies, and begin to develop a health partnership with your doctor. b) In the 1980s, Farmers DID feed cows animal flesh (the leftover flesh of butchered cows), and while it did help to fatten them up, it caused the Mad Cow Disease epidemic, so they kind of decided to move away from that approach. The author has made every effort to ensure that the accuracy of the information within this book was correct Repetitive, the book feels like it needed a stronger editor. Each chapter ends with the same chorus of "your doctor may not have time to do the research necessary to stay current; do your own research. When you visit your doctor, share your research and be a partner in your health. If your doctor doesn't listen to you or poo poos your research, they aren't the doctor for you." When listening to the book in one sitting (it's not very long), the repetitiveness is noticeable and annoying. Which bone-strengthening strategy unknown to the vast majority of doctors works better in peer-reviewed medical research What I liked most about his book is that each chapter goes through a myth and then he refers you to read other books that go into depth about the myths that we have been taught. Eating Saturated Fat and or animal fat (cholesterol) is not unhealthy (and having high cholesterol is not detrimental to your health)This is a very straightforward little book, focused on exploding common and dangerous medical myths. And there are a lot of them. Who's to blame? Not your doctors. They are overworked with unreal expectations for practicing and staying current on studies and research while also having any sort of work/life balance.

Eat whole foods. (produce, whole grains- in their whole form- so think boiled quinoa, not whole-wheat bread) He claims that not only is red meat not bad for us, but neither are processed meats like bacon and sausage. How doctors are taught to think about nutrition and other preventative health measures-and how they should be thinking

Lies My Doctor Told Me Second Edition: Medical Myths That Can

The second red light - advises to read books that should give us more information on the topics. The first of these book is by recognized charlatan and antivaxer. Does the doctor seriously recommend such a book to me? Dr. Ken D. Berry is a board-certified family physician. He was recently accepted as a fellow in the American Academy of Family Medicine. Dr. Berry’s practice focuses on preventing and treating chronic diseases caused by the Standard American Diet, such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. He empowers patients with information to help them navigate this “upside-down circus that is modern medicine.” What’s Inside The most common mistake that most women are making when it comes to bone health – that also makes them more wrinkled I have a client right now who fits the hypothyroidism profile. She is overweight and can not lose weight despite following a healthy diet. Her blood tests are normal but on the outer ranges with a high TSH and a low T4. She also has mildly elevated fasting blood sugar at 100. She also complains of feeling tired all the time...and she's in her 40s. I suspect that her thyroid is petering out...or that she has Hashimotos. Of course, because her labs are technically normal her doctor says she is fine. Which would not be so bad, if her doctor were doing additional testing to determine the cause of her symptoms. The only reason I marked this book down a star is just that it's not very "well-written" in the sense of how it would be put together by a professional writer. It's self published, and the author is a practicing physician, not a writer. I've been an RN for 35 years, and trust me--not all physicians are eloquent with the ability to drop two paragraphs of well-crafted words at the drop of a hat, much less a whole books' worth! That doesn't mean that the information they are conveying isn't important. Add to this the fact that I'm known as the spelling and grammar mistress by almost everyone who knows me...yeah, I'm THAT person...it was inevitable that I'd find some things that bugged me. Sorry. LOL

I tend to agree with him. Unfortunately, I think the initial concerns regarding salt intake was more directed toward those who already had high blood pressure. At some point, the recommendation got taken out of context and ultimately bastardized. Another point the author makes is just because whole grains may not be as bad for us as processed grains, that doesn't mean that they are good for us. And he is right, just because something isn't bad for us, doesn't mean it is good for us and certainly doesn't mean there isn't something better for us. But when discussing diet, we need to look at the overall content of the diet, the nutrient density of the foods, and the variety, balance, palatability, and sustainability of a diet. Just because we've only been eating grains for the past 10,000 years, doesn't mean we can't or shouldn't eat them. And just because some people don't tolerate gluten, doesn't mean that everyone needs to avoid it. But everything we breath in, eat, drink, live in, is toxic these days - so it's no surprise that everyone, even youngsters, are ill with serious diseases. And small health problems soon become much worse once Big Pharma gets you in its grip, as I know to my cost. Nutritional therapy is often overlooked in medical school, and the information provided to physicians is often outdated. Advice to avoid healthy fats and stay out of the sun has been proven to be detrimental to longevity and wreak havoc on your system, and yet many doctors still regularly espouse this "wisdom." What kind of advice is your doctor giving you? Is it possible you're being misled? I have had Crohn's for 40 years and always trusted GP and specialists' advice and treatment: BIG mistake. This course of action has cost me dear and all the steroids and immune-suppressants have ruined my health. Despite a love of sunbathing and decades of lifting heavy weights plus a generally good diet, I have osteoporosis due to medication. I also developed hypothyroid disease that went undiagnosed for many years and the doctors confused the thyroid-related IBS with the Crohn's, meaning I was on unnecessary courses of high-dose corticosteroids repeatedly for years.Lies My Doctor Told Me reveals the truth behind the lies told by well-meaning doctors. Whether it's recommending a low-fat diet, or warning you to avoid the sun, these medical lies can cause really harm to your health.
