About this deal

who knows maybe Mark Zuckerberg has a whole fleet of AI detectives scouring the internet for anti-metaverse individuals LOL. After the first cut is assembled and you watch it back, the editor can still too vividly remember each cut and why they made it. But when the two missing person's cold cases they are reviewing suddenly become active, Lock is the only one who can help Kat when the case gets personal.

Murch treats the reader to a wonderful ride through the aesthetics and practical concerns of cutting film. What I like about Murch's thinking, as highlighted both in this and "The Conversations," is that he's as much a philosopher as he is a theoretician and many of the principles and ideas that he discusses are equally applicable in any other art form. Unsurprisingly, Kat is far from impressed, as she knows that human intuition is imperative in police work.

There is tremendous power in cutting on blinks--and Murch points that we blink when we change the direction of where we are looking, which is similar to a cut in video editing. While this is more geared towards the editing concerns for larger productions with multi-month editing cycle, Murch has many insights into the basic practicalities of editing. Murch believe that film will become a ‘historical curiosity’ which hasn’t quite happened yet as a few film makers still use it, for example Christopher Nolan, but he is certainly in the minority. As Kat and Lock piece together what has happened to Tyrone and Will, the edginess increases so that the reader has a sickening sensation that they will not be the last two young men to vanish. I was also lucky enough to be selected for Val McDermid's New Blood Panel at Harrogate Crime Festival, and my book was reviewed and recommended on BBC 2's Book Club show Between the Covers.
