Say to them (O Prophet!): “Call upon Him as Allah or call upon Him as al-Rahman; call Him by whichever name you will, all His names are beautiful. Neither offer your Prayer in too loud a voice, nor in a voice too low; but follow a middle course.” ( 17:110) Zikir or the act of remembrance does not only mean to utter it through the tongue. It also means to ponder and contemplate upon it. This means to reflect on the Names as described in the Quran. The more we read and learn, the clearer the picture is of these virtuous and beautiful Names. The 99 Names of Allah are of immense importance in Islam. These names represent God’s various attributes and help us better understand Allah and His purpose for us. Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, “Allah has ninety-nine names, i.e. one-hundred minus one, and whoever knows them will go to Paradise.” The Solver, The Reliever, The Judge, The One who opens for His slaves the closed worldly and religious matters. 19For this reason, the best Muslims are those who emulate the beautiful characteristics of Allah as much as it is possible for them to do so. The attributes of Allah are eternal and inherently good, so we ought to take them as the cherished values upon which we build our communities. This attribute of generosity is an attribute of the Lord, the Majestic, for he gives and does not take, he feeds and is not fed. He is the most generous of the generous and the noblest of the noble. The most beloved creation to him are those who take on his necessary characteristics. Indeed, Allah is noble and love nobility from his servants, he is knowledgeable and he loves the scholars, he is powerful and he loves courage, and he is beautiful and he loves beauty. Serves as a potent reminder that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) is always near and watching everything we say and do (Al-Raqeeb: The Watchful). Muslims often recite these names to seek protection and guidance and to remember the greatness of Allah. It is believed that through repetition of these names, one can come closer to Allah and be blessed with His mercy. Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: “There are ninety-nine names of Allah; he who commits them to memory would get into Paradise. Verily, Allah is Odd (He is one, and it is an odd number), and He loves odd numbers.”

The special property of the human soul is knowledge of reality; and the more honourable the object of knowledge is, the more delightful the knowledge of it is. There is nothing more honourable than Allah s.w.t, nor anything more majestic” For example, if we are merciful to people and creatures, this is simply the mercy of Allah working through us. We do not share in the divinity, although we are a conduit for it. The first is the view held by the majority of scholars, which is to memorise it by heart. The second view is to preserve it, internalise its meanings and to express it through actions. The third view is to reflect upon its meanings as the Names are uttered by the tongue, to ponder upon its significance in deep contemplation and reflection with devotion and reverence for the Divine Essence. The 99 Names of Allah are also known as Asma-ul-Husna, which translates to “The Most Beautiful Names”. Muslims are encouraged to meditate upon Allah’s names and attributes and to seek His guidance by repeating these names. The 99 Names of Allah can help Muslims understand Allah’s true essence and remain connected with Him in all aspects of life.
