About this deal

The most important reference to the rainbow in the Bible occurs in Genesis 9:13-17, where the rainbow serves as a sign of God’s covenant with Noah. This covenant was a promise by God to the world that it would never again be destroyed by a flood. The rain clouds and the rainbow were never again to be regarded by people as a threat of ultimate judgment, but as an unchanging indicator of God’s mercy…. The remaining references to the rainbow in the Bible develop this symbolism. They all occur in passages where judgment is to be announced, notably in Revelation 4:3 and 10:1 in connection with God’s judgment of the world (Ezek. 1:28). In all these cases, however, the rainbow is a sign of the glorious presence of God. It is a reminder that His mercy and grace will finally triumph. “ The colors purple and scarlet can mean or represent iniquity or sinfulness (Revelation 17:3 - 4, 18:16, etc.). Purple itself was used as a symbol of royalty (Judges 8:26). Scarlet by itself can represent prosperity (Proverbs 31:21, Lamentations 4:5). Like other colors in the rainbow, it’s important not to go overboard with indigo. Too much indigo results in a person feeling intolerant, judgmental, and avoidant. Too much inward thinking can result in frustration or angst. Used in moderation, however, indigo can be very useful. And I saw Him appearing as the color of polished bronze, looking like fire within it all around. From the likeness of His loins even upward, and from the likeness of His loins even downward, I saw Him, looking like fire, and there was brightness all around Him.

In Japan and China, red is the most revered color of the rainbow, which is why brides in China have traditionally worn red. Noah teaches mankind the seven basic rules to adhere to, conforming to the seven colors of the rainbow: Then Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal robes of blue and white, with a great golden crown and a robe of fine linen and purple, and the city of Susa shouted and rejoiced. Suggest a Verse Enter a Verse Reference (e.g., John 3:16-17) I will set my bow in the clouds, and it shall be the sign of a covenant between me, and between the earth. The rainbow reassured Noah and his family that a flood on the same scale will never take place again. After the Flood, God made an everlasting covenant with Noah, his family, their descendants, and all the living creatures. He promised never again to destroy the earth by a flood. The rainbow was the sign of that promise – a reminder of God’s commitment to the earth. It is a stabilizing color, but it’s also sometimes used to illustrate melancholy (thus the Monday blues). TheBluesis a famous music genre that originated in the deep south and is characterized by mellow sounds. As fantastical as it may seem, this world-wide flood event really happened. And while it is certainly not a myth or even an allegorical story, there are still lessons that we should learn for our lives today. The second color of the rainbow, orange is a warm, vibrant color. It is typically a happy color that makes people feel friendly and comfortable.

The most common colors seen by the naked eye are, as listed by Isaac Newton: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet. In English, a popular way of remembering these colors is to memorize the name "ROY G. BIV." The primary colors are red, yellow, green, blue and violet. On the other end of the spectrum, rainbows are popular in the culture of little girls. Rainbow Pony continues to be a popular line of merchandise. In a kindergarten performance celebrating Martin Luther King’s Day, my daughter scampered across the stage with a rainbow painting on a poster board. She said her dream was for there to be “rainbows everywhere.” This is my favorite rainbow recollection, and it reminds me of God’s loving promise to Noah. The first reference to a rainbow in the Bible is when Noah and his brood spotted a rainbow in the sky after the great flood had ended, and they left the ark to enter dry land. The rainbow God displayed in the sky represented the promise, or covenant, that God would never again destroy the earth by a flood:

I have set My rainbow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.

The most luminous color in the rainbow, yellow is known to capture our attention more easily than any other color. (Perhaps this is why the most common highlighter color is yellow!)A mix of purple and blue, indigo is the color of the midnight sky. Because of this, indigo encourages individuals to think more deeply about life and has strong connections to spiritualism and inward thinking.
