About this deal

I’ve previewed all previous Snowdale Design games, but I’ve also purchased every one of them afterwards. These tests involve any of the 6 skill traits and a difficulty setting, the higher skill levels result in harder tests but yield greater rewards.

Bringing all these pieces to life and making them unforgettable – that's something I leave for the player. Finally once the game is over, players must perform a series or steps to save the state of the adventurers and the game world. I think all story telling games try to walk that line, some going more on one side and some more on the other.Everything is done very professionally with this company and always lets you know every step of the process. It’s important to emphasize this aspect right from the outset of this review, one does not play Lands of Galzyr to experience the thrill of coming to grips with its inner framework of interlocking gears or clever use of game mechanisms. For some reason, I had expected a bigger map, but that just might be due to the fact that recently a lot of games have gone overboard with their board size. E.g if a character has two dark blue “perception” skill markers, they can exchange two black dice against two dark blue dice that show double perception icons on two of the faces. The skill markers and dice are all made of high quality plastics or acrylic, not sure which, but they’re phenomenal.

Having personally played both solo, co-operatively with my daughter and then resetting the game to play with my whole family, I can say that it’s not difficult to do. The game ends after a pre-determined number of rounds where players one after the other have performed the turn as described above. That means that I will only reveal things on a need to know basis and only those things that will be discovered in the first few moments of playing.

Players may wish to purchase sleeves for their cards though, as the constant back and forth from the game box can lead to wear and tear. Both games have a rather arbitrary victory point scoring system that I feel should have been simply left out. The stories aren’t very detailed, so kids won’t probably pick up all the darker vibes, and parents who read the stories can easily adjust if necessary. Winning or losing the game is really fuzzy, and if you don’t really care about the stories the game tells, there really isn’t anything else to the game.
