About this deal

I'm slowly looking for replacement and would like to go brushless as my other makita tools are, however there's nothing really new from Makita range , only the DHP481z which is like 3years old and is their top of the line drill currently. It featuresa variable speed trigger for greater control along with a twin LED job light with pre-glow for use in low visibility applications.

All metal gear construction – allow for smoothly transfer of power in high load applications. While the highly durable materials ensure this tool has unmatched durability, and will continue to perform in years to come. Makita DHP458RTJ 18v LXT Cordless Compact 2-Speed Combi Drill with 2x 5.0Ah Batteries & Charger in Makpac Type 3 Carry CaseeXtreme Protection Technology (XPT) offers maximum protection against dust, debris and liquids for optimal performance in extreme conditions

is it a serious improvement over the 458 with it being brushless and the power output being bumped up from 88 to 115nm, or it's more or less the same stuff just a tiny bit better? what other differences , pros&cons there are? Makita's XPT technology offers enhanced dust and drip-proof performance to ensure reliable operation even under bad weather. XPT is a protective seal inside the tool engineered to provide improved water resistance by channelling water and dust from the tool’s key internal components. Body only / naked machine, supplied without battery or charger. My gearbox for dhp458 is slowly going/acting up and I know the drill won't really last for long, but that's ok as I have used&abused that drill and used it as mixer almost every other day and it has given me a good service for 4years.The Makita DHP486Z 18V LXT Brushless Hammer Driver Drill provides 130Nm of maximum fastening torque and no load speed of 2,100rpm combining rapid drilling speeds with high levels of torque. This model is based on the DHP481, but has been redesigned with a newly designed motor and gear ratio achieving not only more power but also increasing the performance in continuous heavy-duty applications. Not only has the performance on the DHP481 been increased but it is also considerably shorter. At 178mm in length this model is 27mm shorter than the DHP481. Making it the most compact drill in its class and extremely comfortable to use in all applications. The Makita DHP458 LXT cordless combi drill is ideal for DIY use. With an extremely compact tool size with an overall length of 225mm (8-7/8"), allowing for easy access to screws in tight places. High power and productivity is achieved with new DC motor, Max. fastening torque of 91Nm and No load speed of 2,000rpm. By pushing the trigger, the three-stage battery fuel gauge allows you to see how much battery power is still available. Three lights are on, using more than half the battery's capacity. 20% to 50% of the battery's capacity with 2 lights on. Less than 20% of the battery's capacity is used up by one light.
