About this deal

A small HDMI headless ghost adapter can make a computer run “headless” by simulating a high-resolution display with a resolution of up to 4K (4096×2160) (without a keyboard, mouse, and monitor). Easily change the resolution of your real and dummy displays via a slider (or submenu) from the menubar.

The plug doesn’t come apart without a fight. The moulded rubberised plastic insert is ribbed and glued into the outer metal shell. It took a lot of “squishing” the metal shell and pushing on the centre part to free the plug from the shell. Once you confirmed that it is working properly, feel free to disconnect all displays from your graphics card and start streaming with Moonlight.

I live on old DVI/ VGA monitors but I need to test every cam to work to donate them to my friends for some other hardware parts ( as live HD video monitoring camera, connected to TV or HDMI monitor) This simple step often works because it resets the connection between your computer and the dummy plug. HDMI dummy plugs are powerful tools that enhance your digital experience by emulating the presence of a display when connected to an HDMI port. They offer a range of benefits and uses, including optimizing graphics card performance, enabling remote desktop access, maximizing cryptocurrency mining efficiency, testing display resolutions, and conserving energy.

Now that we have a clear understanding of what a dummy plug is and its purpose, let’s explore how exactly a HDMI dummy plug works and how it can enhance your digital experience. Cryptocurrency Mining Rigs: Many cryptocurrency miners utilize multiple GPUs in their mining rigs to improve mining efficiency. However, some GPUs require an active display connection to function at their full potential. HDMI dummy plugs come to the rescue by emulating the presence of a connected display, allowing miners to fully utilize each GPU without the need for physical monitors. This maximizes mining performance and reduces any potential limitations caused by inactive display connections. But of course, given the unit comes from China at a low cost, we might be a little concerned about what is inside prior to plugging it into a computer. It’s probably not going to spy on you or anything sinister – but it’d be nice to know what’s inside. Teardown than manually turned into video recording/image mode and have Arduino PCB to control each individual camera to shot an imageThe specific mechanism used to achieve this emulation can vary depending on the design and features of the HDMI dummy plug. Some dummy plugs incorporate a fixed resistor between certain pins on the HDMI connector to mimic the electrical behavior of a display. The resistance value is carefully selected to match the expected response of a display, ensuring compatibility and proper functioning. When choosing a HDMI dummy plug, consider factors such as compatibility, resolution support, advanced features, customization options, and build quality. By selecting the right dummy plug for your needs, you can ensure seamless functionality and optimal display performance. You can make a HDMI dummy plug using a male-to-male HDMI cable and a female-to-male adapter. First, cut the end off of the HDMI cable. Next, twist the wires inside the cable so that they are all facing the same direction. The underside shows a similar pattern to the soldering on the HDMI port. The unit has an unbranded 24C02 EEPROM (as I expected), with a surface mount capacitor and three 4.7kOhm resistors probably to protect the EEPROM in case of a rogue device and signal hot plug detection. The EDID Data

To concretely build the display emulator, just connect the three resistors (120 ohms in my case) on the VGA side of the adapter following this schema: are there any solution not involving a dummy plug out there? I tried IddSampleDriver and it can successfully create 4k @ 120Hz but in practice it feels more like ~20Hz. I assume this is a software speed limitation It’s quite a confusing array of features – I never knew the 256-byte extended EDID could denote so many different pieces of display information, thus computers being “confused” about display capabilities could be a possibility especially if they don’t interpret some of these extensions. ConclusionThe simple plug-and-play fit-headless display emulator works on Windows, MAC OS, and Linux. It doesn’t need a driver or power from the outside, and it solves the Apple OSX headless display problem. BetterDummy solves the problem by creating a flexible virtual "dummy" display that supports an unprecedented range of Retina resolutions. You can then utilize this dummy display as a mirror source for your display achieving any HiDPI resolution.

This tutorial is for the v1.1.x version of the app, currently available as beta. If you are running the v1.0.13 version, please refer to this guide on how to setup dummy mirroring! The applications and benefits of HDMI dummy plugs extend beyond the uses mentioned above. They provide flexibility, stability, and improved performance in various settings where a display is not physically connected. By emulating the presence of a display, dummy plugs enable users to have greater control over their systems’ graphics capabilities, ensuring optimal efficiency and compatibility.Connect the HDMI cable from the output of your device (e.g. TV) to the input of the HDMI dummy plug. Customization Options: Look for a dummy plug that provides customization options for resolution, refresh rate, or other display-related settings. This allows you to fine-tune the performance and compatibility according to your specific requirements. The app is useful for anybody who is not satisfied with the offered default HiDPI resolutions offered by macOS. Also, if the certificate was not installed properly, try opening either Command Prompt or Powershell as administrator, navigate to installCert.bat's directory and open it from there.
