About this deal

The same happened with Gary Jenning's Aztec series. He only wrote the first two books and the remaining 4 were written by other authors, although his name still appeared. Marshall, Sam (2005). Luna Park - Just for fun (2nded.). Sydney, Australia: Luna Park Sydney Pty Ltd. pp.110–111. ISBN 0-646-44807-2. Keeping low, he ran to the house and flattened himself against the wall. It was a grand building, as befitted the richest merchant in Madras, designed in the fantastical style that was unique to the British in India. A broad verandah was supported by Grecian columns; onion domes flanked classical pediments. It stood about half a mile from the walls of Fort St George and Madras, though near enough to hear the surf crashing on the beach. The master of the house pushed through the throng in a fury. He had spent months planning this evening. He had promised his guests that they would enjoy private sessions with the dancers afterwards, in consideration of favours they had done him, and now everything was ruined. Someone would pay. A warmth spread through Theo’s loins. His manhood strained against his breeches, so hard he thought it might burst.

Theodore Courtney,’ said Meridew, in a voice that carried the full weight and dignity of the Honourable Company of Merchants Trading to the East Indies. ‘Wait until your father hears of this.’Theo’s travels take him to America. There he finds love and once again suffers loss. Captured and adopted by the Abenaki he learns the ways of the tribe. The skills that he learns will serve him well when he later joins the Rangers and once again finds himself in a war with the French. Meanwhile, Constance finds her way to Paris, where she supports herself with the favors of wealthy men. Their paths will eventually cross again, but time has changed them both. Some times when writers can no longer write, either because they are dead or for other reasons, other writers take over and continue writing about established characters or families. a b c Nicholls, Sean (29 March 2004). "Tragic day at fun park recalled". The Sydney Morning Herald . Retrieved 7 June 2007.

The throb of the music seemed to grow faster, more urgent. All the dancers moved as one, but Theo’s eyes were fixed on the girl with the almond eyes. She tied her turban cloth around her hips, then wriggled out of her dress, pulling it from under the makeshift belt. The flimsy cloth unravelled from her body and trailed away like a veil.

Believing herself abandoned by her brother, and abused and brutalised by a series of corrupt guardians, Connie vows never to let any man own her. Instead, she uses her beauty to manipulate her way to France, where she is welcomed into high society. But Connie once again finds herself at the mercy of vicious men, whose appetite for war and glory lead her to the frontlines of the French battlefield in North America. Her eyes met his, flashing with the challenge. Theo swallowed his doubts. He could never resist his sister – however many times it ended with him bending over in their father’s study. Constance winds up in france, after marrying an officer (to be able to leave India) and when he treats her terribly, she goes to Paris. Shouts came from the front door; lantern beams swept across the lawns. Theo tried to rise, grimacing with pain. Rapid footsteps approached the corner of the house.

Mansur grinned. ‘Of course, my love, you would never have dreamed of marrying a disreputable young man. You would not have countenanced it – cousin.’ Of course. But–’ Theo was not a coward, but he had a practical streak. Painful experience had taught him that if they got caught, it was he who would feel the strength of their father’s anger. And what was the nature of this entertainment?’ asked Verity innocently. She was behind her husband, peering over his shoulder. Firm hands grabbed his legs and tried to pull him away. He fought, lashing out with his feet. His shoe connected with something soft, and he heard a grunt of pain. They start in India. England and France are engaged n the global struggle for empire. During a climatic battle in that war in India, Theo and Connie are separated. Theo goes to the colonies in North America and lives as an Native American for a year. Connie goes to France. She has to marry a French officer to get a place on the ship. When he proves false, she takes her good looks and exotic story to Paris, where she makes as good a life as she can. France and England heat up their global war, in the North American colonies. Theo manages to convert enough of the tribe he's been living with to the British side to make a difference.

As for the characters, Theo Courtney is very well-written. Wilbur Smith writes him in such a way as to allow the reader to watch him grow from timid child to war hero. His experiences are varied, and everything he does contributes to him becoming a great leader.Theo blundered through the bushes. Thorns drew beads of blood on his arms; the hard earth jarred his swollen ankle. He could hear the men pursuing him, and he doubled his efforts to escape. He came to the wall and reached up to haul himself over.
