About this deal

This book puts you into the mind of the survivors. How they will have to live with this for the rest of their lives and how by using each other as a support group, you can eventually, hopefully, more forward. I went through a roller coaster of emotions as I read this. It hit me HARD and left quite the imprint. If you do choose to read this book, I cannot recommend the audiobook highly enough. This is arguably the most well produce audiobook I've ever listened to. It's immersive, which you could argue is what makes the reading experience even more visceral; and that is, again, quite disturbing. Yamato, Jen (September 17, 2013). I loved the insightful inner-monologues of the male victims which was somehow both poetic and straight-forward in its rawness. The mixed media made it feel relevant She is one of the founders of the non-profit organization Time's Up, which was created to combat workplace sexual harassment. [48] She is also a feminist. [49] Book Genre: Contemporary, Crime, Dark, Feminism, Fiction, Horror, Mystery, Mystery Thriller, Poetry, ThrillerThe perpetrator of these horrendous crimes surprisingly has very little to say, as the focus of the narrative is on her male victims. By turning the tables on the typical serial assailant trope, Tamblyn challenges the widely held beliefs of the public at large in regard to how we treat victims. This also allows a discussion about male fragility and the patriarchy. I'm not smart enough by half to start giving some intellectual social commentary on this book. I can't talk about the feminist mystique or empowerment or use any of the buzz words. I can't even really talk about what I think Amber Tamblyn was trying to accomplish with this book.

Amber Tamblyn sits across from me in her mother’s art studio, where the wood-paneled walls are populated with promotional photos and memorabilia from Tamblyn’s career, which started when she was 10 — including an adorable “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” poster with her character’s name (Tibby) scrawled in cursive with an exclamation mark.

It’s ironic that this character would then go on to be raped and have feminists rally around him, even though he's spent years demonizing them. It's the difference between living your life with actual principles and living your life based on hatred. In 2007, she co-founded Write Now Poetry Society, dedicated to creating unique and quality poetry programming. The non-profit has a long history with The Getty Museum, curating poetry events in conjunction with art openings, such as 2011's Dark Blushing, featuring new poems commissioned by poets Patricia Smith and NEA fellow Jeffrey McDaniel, based on works of art by Dante Gabriel Rossetti and William Blake. Sub-Genre/Themes: Genre blending, Epistolary, SA, Serial Assault, Violence, Trauma, Suicide, Therapy Whatever her reasons, Any Man is a valuable addition to the literature on rape culture. I think it might be especially useful to those who know someone who has been assaulted - Any Man can help the friends and families of survivors understand and empathize with what their loved ones are going through. But then, doesn't this include most - if not all - of us? Kaufman, Gil (May 14, 2020). "Every One of Your Favorite Comedians Covered 'Weird Al' Yankovic's 'Eat It': Watch". Billboard . Retrieved May 16, 2020. In 2019, Penguin Random House published a collection of her cultural criticism and memoir essays, "Era of Ignition; Coming of Age in a Time of Rage and Revolution." In her blazingly original and unforgettable debut novel "Any Man", Amber Tamblyn brings to startling life a specter of sexual violence in the shadowy form of Maude, a serial female rapist who preys on men.Tamblyn has self-published two chapbooks of poetry, Of the Dawn and Plenty of Ships, and has participated in poetry readings at various venues, particularly in California. The Loneliest, a poem book inspired by Thelonious Monk and his music, was published in 2005 and contains haiku poetry written by Tamblyn and coupled with collages by George Herms. [28] From November 2010 until April 2011, she starred as medical student Martha M. Masters in the seventh season of the Fox medical drama series House. She returned for the series finale in 2012. I know for a fact I won't stop thinking about this book for a long time. It does what good fiction is meant to do: challenges me to re-consider my views, my responses, my gut reactions through creative, fresh prose and storytelling.
